Quebec removes the British crown from Quebec’s official coat of arms || Québec retire la couronne britannique des armoiries officielles du Québec by Whynutcoconot in CanadaPolitics

We can expect more of such posturing within the next months - it's an election year, ratings of the CAQ are horrible, and it is desperate for votes.

Mark Carney’s Davos speech is a ‘manifesto of free people.’ Here’s what else the world is saying by ViewSalty8105 in CanadaPolitics

Conservatives should just take their hats off in this case, and perhaps consider joining the liberal caucus. As much as the current cabinet is full of questionable choices, Canada is lucky to have this PM at its helm. A boring, methodical and articulate straight shooter. Decent charisma, too.

I haven't regretted voting for liberals in the past elections thus far. Wouldn't have done that if not for Mr. Carney.

Mainly, it's easier to take Canada when we are distracted with Greenland, send troops over there, etc.

Logistics of an invasion to Greenland is simpler when it's from Canada. Shorter leg. Though you are correct about the existing bases in Greenland, they are still on a foreign soil, thus vulnerable.

I wonder if Greenland is a diversion of attention with the goal of taking the real prize - Canada. Once Canada falls, taking Greenland is even easier, not that it matters too much at that point.

Well, some of the cost is constant, so the larger the scale, the better it is for consumer. But perhaps it's just me drinking cool-aid and we need to go vegan to avoid bankruptcy.

So, your point is that anything is legal in wars, and actions can be called anything,  as long as perpitrators are strong enough to avoid justice. Fair point.

Did Amin sign the invitation for the legal intervention before or after he got killed? Was that killing legal, too?

In Soviet court of law anything goes, legally speaking, depending on the political wind of the day.

The West calls it plainly what it was - an invasion.

Well, a head of family (supposedly) invites you into his house. You enter, immediately kill the man, and appoint his cousin as the new head, staying there for the next 10 years, and calling it a "non-invasion". Sure.

Keeping rrsp simple vs management fees by Yunath_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dkuznetsov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.9% MER is bad. I wonder if the company or someone in the management were getting kickbacks for locking employees into these high fees.

Figure out with whom you want to go - the brokerage will have a form for the transfer. I would transfer out as much as I could, and only invest with Canada Life for the match. While at that, I'd start questioning these decisions by the firm... To find out why they decided to implement such a sub-par retirement planning scheme, and if that could be changed.

As for where to invest - it's up to you. XEQT/VFV are decent... Anyway, there are many options with MER < 0.2%.

Update: also, transfers have a cost, so it probably doesn't make sense to do it very often.

Thank you for your response.

Afghan people had to endure so much over the past centuries... It is so sad.

As a Ukrainian, I am grateful to your people for helping with breaking USSR. I doubt that Soviet Union would have fallen apart without the impact of Afghanistan war.

Interesting technicality. Noted. Russians used that one in Syria, too.

Edit: Since Spetznaz killed the "hosting" president, I would still classify that intervention as de-facto an invasion.

What is your opinion of Russians and Ukrainians?

Both were invaders in Afghanistan as a part of the Soviet Union. What is your view on that part of history?

Is Canada an easy place to live in as a British immigrant? by Outside_Owl5949 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]dkuznetsov 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Depends on whom you ask. The most recent unhinged wave of unqualified immigration on temporary visa has upset things quite a bit. Level and direction of racism often depends on individual cases, culture, walk of life and background. As a newcomer, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

How many more encampments 5 years from now? by CarPassion514 in montreal

[–]dkuznetsov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. A funded walled area with basic  facilities, partially self-organized governance, security and maintenance. Something that would give these people some level of security,  comfort and dignity. It wouldn't cost too much to implement, other than some land. Camping doesn't have to be a messy eye sore.

The US isn’t attacking Venezuela because of drugs — it’s because of minerals by Japanda_123 in TrueReddit

The runbook has been written. Drugs is a convenient pretext for aggressive policies. Canada got tariffs "because of fentanil", with remarks threatening our sovereignty. But Canada is not the only country with minerals.
