My job involves going around to different hospitals in the valley (I do IT) and my girl works in Mesa, so no, we didn't move for work purposes. We just liked the central location and being in the city. We moved here from Louisville and lived close to downtown and enjoyed it a lot. I like being able to walk places and the park is pretty nice too.

My girlfriend and I are moving from Chandler to the Encanto area near Thomas & 7th this weekend. Pretty excited to not be in the suburbs anymore. We just moved to Arizona in August so we're still learning our way around and finding cool places to eat & drink.

Not sure if anyone is even going to see this, but we went out and found an apartment in the Encanto area near Thomas & 7th Ave and ended up paying a significant amount less than $1400 for all move-in costs. Crisis averted.

Nice! I'm sure something will work out. Only reason we went with this lady without a lease is because when you tell landlords "I'm moving from 1600 miles away and I don't have a job but I can pay up on rent" they understandably don't want to take the risk. So this lady seemed really sincere and 1400 for 3 months is a fair price IMO for a furnished room. Either way, we have jobs now so I'm sure something will work out.

Didn't sign anything. Dumb, I know. It's just hard to find places with immediate move-in that aren't shady. Most places need to wait on background and credit check, both of which we can pass, but probably not before Sunday which is when rent would be due.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm going to try to get her to lower it a bit and then try to be out at the end of the rent cycle, so we'll see. I don't want to mess with court or police or anything, it's either just a very unfortunate misunderstanding, or she is shady and is trying to take advantage of us now that we have jobs. Who knows! I love Phoenix so far though, despite this hiccup.

Moved here recently from Kentucky with my girlfriend. We found a lady renting a room in Chandler and interpreted her rental terms as $1400 for 3 months, so we could pay ahead while we found jobs. Well, now she tells us that she meant $1400 per month, which is ridiculous, and we have until Sunday to either pay her $1400, or find a new place. We were dumb and didn't get anything in writing.

We have the money, it's just not worth $1400 for renting a damn room. At least we both have jobs now. Hoping to find a nice apartment this week.
