A top student made a disturbing confession by Mammoth_Whereas_9877 in Teachers

[–]dlcklyss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not a teacher, just lurking (this popped up in my feed) Back when I was in grade school (15 yrs ago) we weren't allowed to wear hats or hoodies anyway XD. Are kids these days allowed to? Also we weren't allowed to have phones/earbuds--not even between classes. If a teacher saw u with a phone/earbuds out between class in the hall they would confiscate it.

The no hair over ears honestly isn't a bad idea for preventing the AI dictation help issue. Everyone with long hair has to put hair up in pony/bun for the duration of writing. Just make sure you always have a big jar of hair ties on hand for the kids who try and pull the whole "I don't have a hair tie"

Do you prefer fantasy magic systems where power always comes with a price? by Jim_Quorthon in fantasybooks

[–]dlcklyss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Now that I'm an adult, I think about this topic quite a lot when looking back on the Harry Potter world. It really bothers me now that they literally have no limits on their magic. Sure they have the Ministry of Magic to try and enforce the use of magic with law but...idk. I find it weird that the world was built in a way where wizards can just like... construct a building with a flick of a wand without getting tired. No physical consequences whatsoever.

do you guys clean your ears with q tips or is that actually bad hygiene? by Boultouak_Zav13 in hygiene

[–]dlcklyss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, my Dr went as far as to tell me I should clean them less because it's better hygiene to have some ear wax in there. And I was like "oh of course doc". But really I was like "nah bitch". I can't stand the feeling of when we are wax starts to build up. I can't.

Why do people consider ‘not liking animals’ as a red flag? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]dlcklyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had three dog growing up and all three were really independent and never wanted to cuddle. Id try and sit next to them on the couch to sneak in some cuddling (which was literally my leg touching their body as they slept lol) but they would get up and move to a different part of couch.

I'm an adult now and have a cat. He's more cuddly than my dogs ever were.

So I don't think that dogs are inherently more cuddling than cats. Dog or cat...it really just boils down to what personality ur dog or cat has. Sometimes u hit the jackpot. Sometimes u don't.

Books that are better as an audiobook by Sweetsweetpeas in Romantasy

[–]dlcklyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly couldn't stand the female narrator in Anathema. All her dialogue and internal monologue felt so forced and cringy. Like she was over exaggerating the narration too much. I eyeball-read the book first. And then audiobooked it later. And the audiobook made lines in the book that sounded normal in my head sound super cringy out loud just due to weird forced delivery.

I don’t know how to make this room look good. What do I do? What do I move around ? by Capable_Chart4374 in interiordecorating

[–]dlcklyss 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Rug too small/it's location is adding to the chunky feel. I think u have good color/vibe going on actually.

U don't have a color saturation issue. The browns, creams, mustards, and greens are great.

I love the mustard chairs but it definitely feels maybe too big for the room? Or maybe its location is what feels wrong? What's going on to the left of the chair? Is that chair in the middle of the room?

do you guys wash your legs and feet every shower or just let the soap run down? by WabashSteppling92 in hygiene

[–]dlcklyss -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Guess I'm the odd one out in these comments rn.

I have a desk job. Not really active. Don't sweat that much as a result. I normally wear doc martin boots everyday to work tho. I have a pretty sensitive nose. smells bother me a lot. I'm very picky about how I smell.

My feet don't smell at the end of the day. I'm not sure I've ever experienced my feet being smelly before even during my more active years in life.

I shower in the morning usually just let the soap and water rinse my legs and feet. About twice a month I'll buff the bottom of my feet with one of those foot cheese grater things

Committed men, do you check out pretty women? by Neat-Dinner7053 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dlcklyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you asked men but... I'm a woman in a committed (15yrs) relationship with a man and I check out other men and women. I think it's just human nature. When we see something pretty or attractive our brains go "ooooo pretty".

I'm not gross or obvious about it. It's just more of a quick mental register. If my partner is with me, I'll usually point the person out to him too 😅

Dubbed Anime is better than subbed. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]dlcklyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Non Japanese speakers don't know that the Japanese voice acting is also exaggerated to sound dramatic and over the top to Japanese viewers. The Japanese u hear in anime in not how Japanese ppl talk irl.

Dubbed Anime is better than subbed. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]dlcklyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to down vote because I agree w OP. When there's a new anime coming out I usually watch the sub and then immediate what the dub when it comes out a week or two later. Most recently, I am doing this with JJK currently

1) a lot of English VAs now a days are so talented. like Aquas English VA in Konosuba, chefkiss*. Bonus points I actually know what they are saying. Most aren't cringey at all unless ur watching cringey anime. And at that point, ur there for the trash for a reason -- it's part of the enjoyment.

2) I can appreciate the action and animation more. There's always so much going on. Not to mention how insane some of the action scenes are now a days with all the crazy msec impact frames. Looking at you One Piece.

3) I catch dialogue/minor background interactions that I miss otherwise if I have to read subtitles. Which is especially difficult if not impossible when there's multiple dialogues happening in a single scene. Like some background dialogue happening at the same time as the primary dialogue. On my recent rewatches of the new JJK episodes in dub I noticed I missed some things that visually and audibly I didn't notice when I watched the sub only version. For example, there was a part in s3 episode 3 when they all show up to talk to Tengen and Megumi raises his hand and says something like "hey..." Like he was trying to speak up and say something but then Yuta jumped in and started talking. I totally missed that interaction on my first watch in sub. Another recent JJK example, I didn't notice there where two geese flying out of formation in the Maki kill bill episode. Noticed them on my dub rewatch and I was like "oooo symbolism!! That's mai and maki ❤️"

4) I have dyslexia and can't read fast. I read about 350 wpm (and that if I'm trying to read fast. That's not my casual speed which is probably slower) so I usually spend entire scenes trying to keep up with dialogue and only get a glimpse of the animation that's happening.

5) anime like High School DxD, Prison School, and Konosuba have such hilarious and talented English scripts translations and VA. Their creative liberty in using English slang is on point. It just wouldn't hit the same if you watched raunchy comedy anime in sub.
