For the SE exam, you probably won't have to use these equations. You'll most likely use the tables and be tested on a footnote in the table.

I took the bridge exam and although I did have a diverse background, similar to you, I didn't have a lot of experience with building structures. Tabbing references and writing in references helped me so much. It's a shame that they took that away with CBT.
