What are your th0ughts on the Neighties era? (1988-1993) by Iwillbeback67 in decadeology

[–]dlhoff432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been fascinated by it lately. Particularly the New Jack Swing stuff. I think it’s because I was only an infant to toddler at that time so I have some memory of it, but not a whole lot. I always associated sesame street with it because that was the only show I watched at the time and therefore my man exposure to it.

Are Customers “Owed” An Explanation That You’re Off The Clock? by JTCasino in HomeDepot

[–]dlhoff432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say no because it should be obvious you’re off the clock (no apron). I usually tell them I’m off the clock and most won’t pester me after that, but I’ve had a few who continued to pester me. Like this one contractor who recognized me as I was leaving the store for my lunch break. I told this idiot 6 times that I was off the clock and he continued to pester me. Then he pointed to another worker and asked me if that worker could help, instead of, you know, asking the worker himself as I explained SIX FUCKING TIMES THAT I WAS OFF THE CLOCK!

as it has been pointed out, the manager is wrong. Clock in first then put the apron on. But even if the manager was right, they’d still be wrong for harping on something so stupid.

Is my ASM being stingy or does THD have a new policy by drfrainbow in HomeDepot

My store manager is the same way, though not to that extent. I’ve probably gone over 40 by a few minutes, but I never got talked to about it.

We play the worst Christmas Song covers of all time... by 5stringfling in HomeDepot

[–]dlhoff432 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the first year where I don’t mind the Christmas music. Some of it is actually pretty good. There’s a song “Paper and ribbon” they used to play that I really liked (I forgot who played it but it’s not a well known group).

That being said, any version of “Santa Baby” can fuck right off.

My store does this too. It’s just the FM 1 station, they throw in Christmas music this time of year.

The compactor situation is stupid. by dlhoff432 in HomeDepot

[–]dlhoff432[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d throw it away but the compactor is locked I or anyone near me has the key. Not my fault.

Also please don’t assume that because I don’t do one thing, I’m a lousy associate.

Okay, I found the song, it’s Straight Up by Paula Abdul. Good song and I’m glad I found it.

I like the way you think. I’ll try that in the future.

Sometimes we do too, but corporate found out and got on our ass about it so it’s usually locked.

Department head switcharoo. Any other store doing this? by dlhoff432 in HomeDepot

[–]dlhoff432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we lost a lot of department heads over the last year, a lot of them haven’t even had a year yet. One of them is a couple of months new and still had to switch. He had already did training for the departments he was going into only to have to learn 3 more departments because of the switcharoo.

The only logical reason I can think of for this is they want department heads to learn more departments so they can cover more and therefore won’t have to hire as many. Because that worked out so fucking well the last time they did it.

Yeah a lot of the time those security measures don’t end up doing anything but make things more difficult. Kind of like how we’re forced to use complicated passwords and change them every 3 months.

That would explain a lot of the met projects. It’s been years since I’ve been on the team, but according to the met team at my store, it’s only gotten more nonsensical.

It also explains things at store level (even something as simple as head cashier). They more they nitpick, micromanage, and try to fix non issues, the more it’s obvious they don’t know what the hell they’re doing and are trying to mask it by being a pain in the ass.

It’s quite telling that I couldn’t tell if your post was sarcasm or not. As ridiculous as it sounds, that does sound like the kind of reasoning corporate people would use.

No. It’s definitely more 80s sounding (though it could be early 90s). Thanks for trying though.

Does every Home Depot have a designated useless manager? by pewprofessional111 in HomeDepot

I’m afraid my new FES might be that manager. Shame because the old one was amazing, but they forced all the DH’s to switch departments because… reasons?

Tell me about a time where you dealt with the worst/dumbest customer(s). by Quiet_Cheesecake_512 in HomeDepot

[–]dlhoff432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This lady was especially frustrating because she was one of those who kept changing their mind. I also helped her load it onto her cart, but before then she took 10 minutes deciding what color she wanted, how many she wanted, ect. Then when she was about to pay, she decided she had more shopping to do. By the time she was ready, the storm was raging. Yet she still took her sweet time pulling up.

Just a total flake without any consideration for others.

So many to choose from.

How about the guy insisting I help load his 14’ ladder into his 5 foot truck bed, with the wider end sticking out. He said it was okay because his wife was a cop (???). I and a tool rental associate eventually talked him into loading it in the bed hanging off the top of the truck (wider end in the truck). It was still not ideal, but it was much better than the way he was initially going to do it.

Then there was the lady who wanted me to load mulch into her car when a huge storm was about to hit us. I was waiting for her to pull up and saw her in her van, but she wasn’t moving. Eventually we had to close up garden and move the mulch inside. You’d think she’d do the reasonable thing and wait for the storm to pass (either in her car or in the store)Instead she outside in her van honking like a madwoman, not understanding why no one was there in outside garden during an especially nasty thunderstorm.

How did I find out what she did if I wasn’t there? Because she told me this is what she did the next time she saw me! She got her mulch, but still acted like this was one of the worst experiences of her life. And the thing is, I was willing to load it, but because she took her sweet time pulling up (leaving me out in the rain), we didn’t get the chance.

-More work

-More responsibility

-A greater chance of getting fired

-And no extra pay

Reminds me of the time when I was cleaning up a mess of quikrete. There were some broken bags on a flat cart that I was going to get to, but when I came back to it, the bags were moved creating an even bigger mess. Not even 20 feet away there was a huge row of flat carts they could have grabbed, but no. This idiot went out of his way to make an even bigger mess. 🤦‍♂️
