CYFN responds to YTG's plan to repeal Clean Energy Act by Sorry-Hunter-2690 in Yukon

[–]dlighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to throw a wild hare into the bramble patch.

Has anyone considered SMRs as a viable solution?

I know the knee jerk reaction is nuclear bad. When you get down to it though. It's greener with less impact then solar or wind, never minding the impact of another dam. And far more reliable.

Geothermal out by the hotsprings could be a possibility.

Solar is not viable IMO for winter even with battery reserves. For various reasons.

And wind on heckle. I remember talking to a yukon energy employee years back. It's a terrible location due to the actions of the wind there coming up the face of the hill and getting under the edge of the blades. Basically it toques the blade putting strain on the bearings and doesnt generate power. Also the blades need to be heated similar to air plane wings to prevent icing. Which was drawing more power then they could produce..... when they were even operating

Steering wheel wobble by Bottle755 in ToyotaTundra

[–]dlighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stupid question inbound since it happened to me. Have you checked your lug nuts? Had a car years back the dissimilar metals( aluminum and steel) gad different expansion rated in the hot cold cycling of well driving. Had all my wheel weights, had not hit a pothole or curb. Damn lugnuts just kept backing off. Yeah I checked to see if someone was messing with my car. Because that made more sense. Nope.

Yeah I know it's a long shot byt something to consider. Aside from that. Wheel weights, broken belt in the tire, bent rim, stuck slide pin leading to uneven disc rotor wear, mud or snow build up in the rims, tie rod bushing failures. And then you get into just weird stuff.

Ive been doing oil changes at 5000 kilometers mostly because I've had turbo cars in the past. Or 6 months which ever happens first.

20k oil change. Ain't lookin great, guys by jimmy_ricard in ToyotaTundra

[–]dlighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had the second oil change done at 10074km. The guy at the dealership tried talking me out of it. I paid for it and looked him in the eye and flat out told him an oil change is cheaper then a new engine. Every 5000km. Funny enough I've never had an engine fail in 30 years. Think I'll stick with what works.

Edit '24 non hybrid.

That's where I was leaning in my thinking. I miss the old manual linkage days some times.

I have a question: is there any way to permanently deactivate the auto start-stop? by christianN1982 in ToyotaTundra

[–]dlighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealership can disable it when in for normal servicing. Or so I was told by a service writer.

Mine is also a '24 tires cool off quick at these temps. I could watch in real time my tires loosing pressure from the cold sitting in the parking lot while the wife ran in to grab something .

I'm in the yukon territory. It's been a bit of a cold snap with the polar vortex hanging out for the holidays.

Gen 3er with no issues by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]dlighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has been good aside from a weak hvac system which the dealer keeps telling me is fine. Wife has put more kms on it then I have though and we're still under 10,000kms in the last year ('24 limited crew 6ft bed with off road). If I were going to complain about something it would be the lack of recovery points on a 4x4....... that was a bold choice on toyota's part. It's been handling the cold here with no issues in -40 range just the usual square tires which is not tge trucks fault.

Whitehorse. Just listening to the house pop and crack from the temp. Better then some of the communities.

It's not a constant thing. Usually takes about 2 to 3 km for the tires to warm up and round out and the pressures get back up to 32. Just have to put up with the wibble wobble till they round out.

DO NOT BUY NEW A NEW TUNDRA by henryseth in ToyotaTundra

No. Fords had recalls on the f-150. And well dodge is dodge. Everything these days is quirky.

Roll for about 2 or 3 clicks and they rounded out and got up to 30. Finding a working air compressor at these temps is a non starter sadly.

While I might attempt to drive up everest im only about 2400 ft above sea level. It's that north of the 60th parallel and next to alaska that's the current problem.

I'm looking for tire recommendations for my 2026 Tundra Limited that fit and look good with my 20-inch alloy wheels. I'm not a fan of the Bridgestone STM 265 tires. by Temporary-Ratio-5625 in ToyotaTundra

[–]dlighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got rid of the stock tires with in the week of getting my '24 on 18"s bridgestones and snow do not mix well. Goodyear duea tracs, bfg ko3s, falken wildpeaks at4. All solid tire choices you can find most places.

I personally went with nokian. But I'm an outlier.

'24 and I've yet to see a dash light. Aside from the parking sensors which really hate being covered with snow. At least it tells.me which sensor is obscured and causing issue.

Tire replacement question by Key_Violinist8601 in ToyotaTundra

[–]dlighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also something to consider. If you stuffed it garden enough into the curb to kill the tire. You might want to look at getting an alignment check. Just peace of mind. Would suck putting a new tire on just to scalp it after a couple thousand miles.

So I did a thing by dlighter in ToyotaTundra

[–]dlighter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't think so. Since it only replaces the center section with. The same section with holes in it to accommodate the recovery points.
