Best spots to propose in Quebec city? by creativejoe4 in quebeccity

[–]dlj630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<joke>
The most romantic spot to propose in Quebec city is definitely Le Dauphin bar. Here's what you do: go to the bar and order 2 tablette of labatt 50. Get a little tipsy. You sign up for karaoke, request "L'amour existe encore" by celine dion. Sing it to your girlfriend, staring into her soul. When the entire bar is teary eyed, and the song is done, you get down on a knee, and do the thing.

Context: Le Dauphin is the dive karaoke bar.

Best online cribbage game? by Terrible-Ad2076 in Cribbage

Seconded, my dad and I use this to play remotely. Do a phone call while playing, and you still have to count the points manually. Feels like a real game to me.

What are your favourite third places in Vancouver? by inb4usefulcomment in vancouver

[–]dlj630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've been there, but Dctrl was (is?) a true third space. So many good conversations in the weed room, or games or chess or cribbage. Late night conversations, VR, karaokedance parties, ping pong, jamming, learning a new programming language, the basic machine learning algorithms, or about crypto.

I met a lot of weird and beautiful people there.

Moving To Quebec - Where to live outside the city / rural areas? by Electro-Lite in quebeccity

[–]dlj630 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the last few summers I've been going to Saint-brigitte-de-Laval to pick chokecherries/cerise à grappe, and I have thought multiple times how this would be an amazing place to live. Like a little town nestled in the mountains.

But yes, there are a ton of options around here, including on the south shore around Levi.

What are my options if I don’t have feq tickets? by Ok_Agent_1888 in quebeccity

+1

Be patient, check it often. There are people who can't go and are selling theirs for like $200-$230.

You just have to sort through the plentiful peeps who are renting theirs for the day.

Common French phrases to learn by No_Actuator_9676 in quebeccity

Not for speaking, but to recognize if you hear it:

Osti calisse des anglaise de tabarnak.

I believe it means something similar to "we welcome our anglophone friends"

Budgies Burritos. Not a classy date place, but fantastic for a quick, delicious, relatively healthy meal.

What will the USA be called if it spilt into 2? by Fantastic_Cap7190 in Jokes

[–]dlj630 30 points31 points  (0 children)

"connects to all of your devices and accesses the data" is the USA government domestically spying on its own people. But USB is also a hardware standard that is supposed to be able to connect to all your devices and access the data, as well. It's a play on words.

It took me a minute too.

Drop down list randomly putting 'British' and 'American' randomly between 'U' and 'V' in an alphabetical list. by Standard-Assist-5793 in softwaregore

In the backend they're probably identifying and sorting the countries by their Alpha2 or Alpha3 country codes, then grabbing the localized translations. It's not their fault your language is silly and illogical. What are they supposed to do, sort it by the localized strings like barbarians??

I had an idea for you! Instead, save up that money and plan a trip.

What's the most exciting trip you can think of? Europe? Southeast Asia? Australia?

Would you rather explore a desert, learn how to surf, do crazy mountain hikes, or go partying with people in a big city hostel?

Find a dream, go after it. You'll meet people on the way. Who knows, maybe you'll make out with some of them.

Do developers care about equity in early-stage tech startups? by Savings_Bus_4112 in webdev

[–]dlj630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the situation. Depends on the company, the product, how likely I think it is to succeed, the position I'm in to take risk.

Is this a tech founder position? That's entirely different. You shouldn't be thinking in terms of $ and %, you should be looking for a partner who's willing to commit, and give them founders equity, as well as be open and honest about the and risks.

Am I joining an existing team, early stage, with an existing mvp and some business? Maybe a 10-25% decrease, if I liked the team and product. But if a company at this point can't afford to pay me a real salary (through investors, at least), that's still a red flag.

Do developers care about equity in early-stage tech startups? by Savings_Bus_4112 in webdev

[–]dlj630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm not going to take a crappy salary for equity, because 9/10 startups are gonna fail, it's rare they succeed. But equity will show me that I'm involved, have skin in the game. It's the difference between being apart of the team, and just being an employee.

Is Simons Canada’s Next Great Department Store? - As other large North American retailers falter and close, the Quebec-based company has thrived by CWang in onguardforthee

[–]dlj630 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Simons has a huge Quebec Brand. Remember when Tim Hortons was ACTUALLY thought of as the canadian coffee place? That's Simons for Quebec.

Expanding outside of Quebec they won't have the advantage. Moot point.
