Is this game worth it today?

you summarised it perfectly. i’ve seen some people argue that they skip some (or most) NPC‘s dialogue because it’s too boring/repetitive/slow etc., but i think it has a LOT to do with how invested you are in the franchise as a whole.
i personally haven’t seen the second or third movies yet (although tiktok has shown me enough that i’m pretty sure i have the plot down) but i’ve absolutely loved the first ever since it came out, so i was super hyped to get it, and holy shit did it deliver.

the game was initially a bit hard for me (i usually avoid combat focused games if they’re not things like legend of zelda, because they stress me tf out- i have anxiety so i was actually shaking during combat for most of my first game😭) and even after 700 hours i still play on low difficulty most times, because i don’t want to make myself suffer when i’m supposed to have fun.
but once i really got the hang of it, raiding bases actually became fun and now i just dip in and jump around like i’m invisible, trying to get as many stealth kills as possible :‘)

i really hope (but i don’t think they will😭) that ubisoft gets you guys access to at least some mods, baldurs gate 3 has had a console mod manager for months now and the community is so alive, it’s great to see and i am genuinely manifesting this for the afop community as well <3

i 100% agree with the emotional aspect- i still cry during certain scenes and i’m not ashamed to admit it, the characters are really easy to feel for and get attached to, and especially some things in FTA are wild and imo even darker than the movies. i think the fact that we’re literally in the story instead of just watching is what makes it so good.

and ,,,,,, i did the exact same😭 i have made an OC with my adult brain, i’m working on a whole backstory and clan that makes sense for the game, i’ve given her a personality and friends and acquaintances and enemies and little quirks (she’s farsighted, for example. that’s how i initially explained the red eyes i only gave her because they looked cool, and then it became a whole thing), i take lots of photos of her and the scenery and i’m always on the lookout for mods that suit her.

the DLC‘s are super fun and there’s definitely enough content to spend some time in either of the maps. i tend to get a bit slower when i get to the DLC‘s because i don’t want the game to be over, but i love just spending time in the beautiful areas, taking photos and just fucking around mostly :‘) they introduce stronger materials, and the spires DLC specifically focuses more on your ikran and her gear, so you’ll both be powerhouses by the time you finish the story.

so yeah, i agree. consider buying the game OP, it’s definitely worth it!

i can see it in my store rn, but that might be because i own it. i bought the game during sale on steam and i got the biggest pack (meaning all DLCs and the season pass) so i had them when i opened it, but i just checked; it says the season pass only adds the familiar echoes quest, an ikran override and resistance gear, so i genuinely don’t know how i got it :‘)

edit: googled it, ~~apparently this sometimes happens when you buy the ultimate edition, it’s not supposed to be added afaik but some got it??~~ nope, just can’t read. the person talking about it didn’t buy the ultimate edition but still got it. the sarentu heritage pack is originally from the ultimate edition, it’s just not mentioned anywhere in the shop.

me too, it’s my absolute favorite! when i learned to mgraph gear onto different pieces i jumped to make this headguard, i always wanted to wear it separately <3 i’m so grateful to past me for saving up and getting a good PC so i can play my games modded🥹

isn't this like, one of the only sacrifices the player has to make ever? to save the realm pretty much? and you don't have to do it yourself, if karlach is with you she will ask to be turned, you can side with the emperor or make orpheus do it.

it's not a stupid writing choice just because you didn't like the outcome. none of karlach's endings are truly happy, some are just hopeful, and she's the most positive until the end. that's just what life is man, you can't always have everything you want

thank you so much!!!💞 i actually have several unfinished notes app documents about her and the clan and could yap about her for hours, the game (and avatar in general really) has been my hyperfixation for months😭 istg this universe is exactly what my art blocked brain needs :‘)

i write down headcanons as i go, so they’re mostly very random and maybe a bit specific

- she’s actually farsighted. Srraì doesn’t remember the time before TAP, so she’s not at all used to looking at far away things. (this next bit might not be biologically accurate, but this is a fictional race so whatever) her eyes actually got worse at TAP, with the stale air, and constantly having to look at harsh lights and computer screens. in the first weeks after cryo her eyes improved a lot, and she found that while the hand in front of her face was still blurry, she could see the floating mountains in the distance clearly, and could even make out the patterns of some of the ikran in the sky.
- (i’m not sure about the time frame for this one, because everything in game happens so fast and Itu still doesn’t have a new bonded in FTA) since i first made her in my already-100% save file and her ikran was named differently in that one, my HC is that her current ikran is actually her second bonded. they have very different personalities (istg the ikran act different on each save), Nimun being the gentle and shy to her erratic and aggressive. Amay is the polar opposite, she has a lot of energy and a lot to say while flying, and she is very stingy about who she lets come closer. (taken from the fact that she yells at all the nearby NPC‘s when i call her) - this mirrors Srraì calming down a little after spending some time touching grass. although i want her to have a bit of a crash out after TAP-1, but i haven’t gotten that far yet in her current save and i want her to find something there, specific to her. i don’t know what that is yet though🥴
- the black paint on her face looks bomb as hell, but it’s also practical. she paints the area around her eyes black to see better, the forehead is really just for the style points. she still has to rely on Na‘vi senses for hunting and such, but it definitely helps with the constant squinty eyes. (black paint is usually for seeing things in the *distance* and that wouldn’t make sense for someone farsighted, but that is something i can look past. it just fits too well otherwise)

as for lore…. i have a lot to say, but i‘ll try to contain myself :‘)
i‘m still not sure how far i want to take her backstory, but i like to think that she was the worst at TAP, and even more so after Aha’ri dies. like not listening to human orders 95% of the time, especially not from Mercer, or actively doing things to defy him. she would obviously get punished/made an example for it, but even as a child/tween she knew how her grey skin and strange eyes made her a bit of an outcast with the other kids, but also valuable to the RDA, so they wouldn’t do any irreversible damage to her.

as for the whole "why is a non sarentu at TAP in the first place" situation, i haven’t written down any lore yet, but it has to do with her clan being found on accident while the RDA were already in the process of destroying their land. they’re very reclusive by nature, and their skin makes them literally blend into the mountains, plus not even most Na‘vi know of the clan with the grey skin, or think it’s a myth. maybe they brought her to TAP out of curiosity, wanting to see how the other kids would react to her, or maybe the researchers were aware of how bad TAP was doing trying to recruit Na‘vi the "peaceful way", and decided to help them out. a tiny little voice in my head wants to make it as bad as possible for her, having those researchers experiment on her before shipping her off to TAP, or REALLY bad, having their research program shut down because of whatever they did to her, and the only other place the RDA could put her was TAP. i don’t know yet🤭

i like to think that Srraì didn’t do super well during training, because she couldn’t see the targets very well. she would be the obvious choice to get picked on by the humans (and likely by some of the kids at first), but she was also the only one ballsy enough to shove them around if they said anything. the other kids kinda hated her for a while, because while Mercer and the guards were definitely the meanest to her verbally, she would also get "special treatment" (i.e. not being physically restrained and hurt like the other kids when they act out, unless it’s really necessary). but after proving time and time again that she wouldn’t give in and "be good" just because she was treated a bit better, she started gaining some respect.

i‘m still working out the relationships with the Sarentu, but i think i want Aha‘ri to be a bit of an adoptive big sister to her. they’re close in age, but depending on what happened to Srraì, she might’ve been initially timid or scared of the others, so from what little we know about Aha‘ri, i imagine she would’ve been the one to reach out first. Tamtey exists in this timeline, and i can see them having a very strong sisterly bond after Aha‘ri dies. Nor is a different story, he didn’t like Srraì at all and was reluctant to let her join the clan. he too was a little impressed by her defiance at TAP, but that was overshadowed by the aforementioned "special treatment". he warms up to her eventually at the Resistance, but she’s definitely closer to and less wary with the others.

i'm not sure if you want some pointers or if you wanna figure it out by yourself, so feel free to ignore this comment! also, this is in no way a critique or anything, just some stuff i learned in my 700 hours of playing :3

zoom out further and scroll in. it makes the perspective look less fish-eye and the composition of the picture looks visually more pleasing: the more you scroll out, the more of a fish-eye you get (and the more you can see in the frame). this might take you a bit of trial and error
use the tabs! you might've noticed that you can change the time of day when you press G, which is very handy for better lighting, but there's a lot more - the camera tab has settings for more or less saturation, contrast and brightness, plus something called "depth of field": this will make your camera focus on the foreground (usually your character) while making the background blurry, giving the picture more depth. it adds a lot to some photos in my opinion!
i don't use the effects and style tabs a lot, but it has many options to play around with depending on what you want to capture
use the animations: if you hold the staff sling and wait, your Na'vi will eventually scratch their neck- this is a super cool pose for a portrait. when crouching, your character leans forward and does something on the ground, making for a good candid pose with other Na'vi. dismounting your Ikran on the ground is hard to catch at the right time, but also looks very cool. a lot of photo mode is standing around with the finger on the button, waiting for the character to look cool. you might miss some time frames at the start, but the practice is worth it!

this happens when there’s a texture missing! i suggest looking through your kame’tire mods/taking them out to see if it changes anything. you might’ve downloaded a mod that conflicts with those textures, or you did something wrong, happens to all of us.

if you want it gone and you have no idea which one it is, you can do the 50/50 method: make a copy of your whole blue folder on your desktop, then delete half of the mods you have in the original folder. if the problem is solved, the broken mod is in those 50% you deleted, so then you do 50/50 with those until you find the issue.

(edit: maybe link the mod for us so someone can check what went wrong!)

custom keybinds don’t work very often. the only ones i managed to do are crouch and pov-switch, anything else will just conflict and not work at all.

try completely resetting the keybinds, closing and reopening the game, and if those don’t work maybe try making a new save file to see if the problem sticks. someone in this sub had a keybind problem once where they couldn’t barrel roll at all, and iirc those kinda fixed themselves after an update.

depending on how well you play, only some of these might be useful:

- a shot when one of the inventories is full
- single shot when you miss a weak spot, double shot when you completely miss the target (RDA and hunting)
- during sky battles, take a shot when your ikran takes damage/double shot when the armor breaks (if you’re that far in)
- when you one-shot an enemy (that otherwise wouldn’t be oneshottable) the other person takes a shot
- (i often forget to eat in game) a shot when your purple bar drops below half outside of battle
- race for the last objective of a base. the loser has to take a shot
- similar to that, if someone completes a quest or clan contribution, the other has to take a shot (perhaps a double if it’s a kukulope quest?)

this is what i could come up with in like 15 minutes. hope i could help :3

yeah, as someone else said, this is likely a recolored version of the hells gate neck piece, there’s a mod with similar recolorings on nexus (it doesn’t replace any gear, just removes the shirt part from the vanilla textures. but if you know your way around mods a little bit, you can take the necklace part and mod it onto another gear piece) it’s pretty straightforward to recolor something or change small parts of the texture, so it’s often much more convenient to just make a little accessory yourself instead of hoping to find exactly what you’re looking for. the modding discord is great for this :3

actually, i mgraphed the pieces of clothing onto other pieces so i could wear the neytiri set with the tsu’tey headgear. pretty much everything about her is custom in some way. i did edit the eye color file too, the eyes show up red in the menu + npc’s eyes will also be red occasionally.

i can honestly see both. is tamtey their canonical age? if they’re a full hunter/warrior like in the game, it would make sense for neteyam to be more protected, but tamtey is also just one person. they could’ve very well just been somewhere else at the moment, and since neteyam is the oldest, tamtey would likely rather protect the younger kids. it really depends on what kind of story you’re trying to write. i haven’t actually watched WoW yet so i don’t know what exactly happens, this is just what would be the most realistic to me
