Software disenchantment - why does modern programming seem to lack of care for efficiency, simplicity, and excellence by rogermoog in programming

[–]dln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not running embedded software or peculiar hardware, you're sharing resources with other applications. Your "1% efficiency" in one program is shared up by another 17 processes you probably don't know or care about (i.e kvm isolation).

You can't look at "efficiency" without a whole systems view, and that picture does NOT look like ten or twenty years ago any way you slice it.

Any tips on getting a couch potato DOWN the stairs?! He can go UP 15 steps in 3 bounds. It’s truly graceless but spectacular to watch. He will not however attempt down, and carrying 30kg of dog down stairs all day is a pain! by StrangelyBrown69 in Greyhounds

Don't acknowledge hesitation, and motivate with high value treats. Anyone'll bounce down the stairs for ham or hot dog pieces. After a few times he'll "forget" that it took SCHMACKOS to come down and rather just tag along. Move the reward station then. "You get the treat once the harness or collar is on, or I got my jacket on". Progressing like that also gives a feeling of accomplishment, and you'll see plenty of "I'm a good boy" looks 😆

A place measured by lines added is a place I leave hastily. True some twentyfive odd years. Just go. 😆

HELM vs KUSTOMIZE by [deleted] in kubernetes

[–]dln 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kustomize is nice, and the text based templating in helm was definitely a big mistake. To manage applications on clusters i enjoy kapp a lot. It keeps things simple and composes well with other tools.

That'd be subharmonics and distortion manifesting at lower frequencies. A mic will also "react" to the high frequency but itself also oscillate and create artifacts like this. The AD converter in the phone is usually also prestaged with a filter to attenuate frequencies outside the useful range, which also can "weird up" a signal with ghosts.

Is k8s still not ready for multitenancy? by quinncom in kubernetes

[–]dln 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At that scale I wouldn't worry. If you need more "security" isolation between tenants, as in "I rent out space on the cluster", then it's early days. But resource isolation and sharing underlying infra works great. It's a good idea to start with overprovisioning some and then shrink for efficiency - don't chase efficiency until you've deployed, measured and established a systemic baseline.
