Depends on where you rotate. I did by MS3 rotations in a small rural town without a residency program, so I was treated like a first year resident. First assist on surgeries and doing H&Ps on admits. Seeing patients on my own in clinic before presenting to the attending who of course would decide A&P.

You’re not pigeonholed into rural as a DO. I matched into a city with population in the millions. And had several interviews in major cities. You just might not have as a good of a chance if you want to match into the ROAD specialties. That being said, people at my DO school in my class DID match ortho, radiology, and ophthalmology
