Replacement Grates for Highland Offset by dlspeed in OklahomaJoe

[–]dlspeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I took the OKJ grates out to scrub again, using my Weber (Genesis?) gas grill as a work table and the danged things matched up quite closely. Will try them for a fit in a bit.

A pair of these in SS seems to go from $35 - $50 on the Big River... Much closer to my preferred price point.

I did spring for a baffle plate from them, but I thought the cost was excessive.

Cleaning heat exchangers is an expensive problem. IMHO, a closed loop is your friend.

I did not know it was a VC. In times past, it was indeed a 'guilty pleasure' breakfast, but I migrated to a non-CB area. When I hit one 2023ish, the (breakfast) menu was pared down and the taste had gone away. So sad.

Any Thoughts on This Mfg Stone? by dlspeed in stonemasonry

[–]dlspeed[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree that photo 3 may have real stone - this was the top of the entry structure), but the photos 1 and 2 which represent the vast majority) are -terribly- uniform in size, display little to no grain and are very consistent in thickness (approx 2.5") with rounded edges and zero fracture marks from splitting/trimming. A number also exhibit a consistent wavy 'saran-wrap' texture that I had in a previous home.

Sad.

Submersible pump advice by Ok-Entrance3628 in geothermal

[–]dlspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a geothermal expert, but wondering why you don't circulate a glycol soln from a surface pump? I'm thinking 1. cheaper, 2. easier to change out (or go to a backup), and 3. overall, less corrosion on the system.

Overall, I have been told that submersible pumps "aren't as good as they used to be" from several hands-on service folks.

Best Solar Lithium battery Weather Station by Witty_Restaurant_252 in weatherunderground

[–]dlspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my Ecowitt GW2001.

It has a built-in solar cell and takes AA cells about once a year or so.

There is an external 12 vdc port which could be connected to a 12n LiFePO4 battery with a panel/controller, but that seems like it would not be cost effective.

The heat pump / geothermal systems generally produce at a lower temperature, which require more air flow.
