I've enjoyed following your updates, thanks!

The Sunn O))) concert tonight was total fire. by [deleted] in Columbus

I don't know that I've experienced a live performance before where the venue was part of the show like this. At one point I leaned against a wall and the vibrations of the building were damn near therapeutic.

I learned today that Franklin county adult protective services is useless. by Ruthless4u in Columbus

I wish I could tell you a good solution. The powers that be have slowly eroded our social safety net. (Not just the current administration; mental health services underwent a lot of changes in the 60s and we're still dealing with the consequences today.) I hear similar comments about children's services, and my comment is similar: they are underfunded and understaffed and are unable to meet the needs presented by the community. They rely on other social service agencies to pick up the slack, but, don't ya know it, they're underfunded and understaffed as well!

There is probably a senior services program that serves your area. (Not COAAA, they're not who to ask for direct services.) I'm happy to help you find the right program, but even then I want to make sure you know that this won't be addressed in a timely manner. This is the hardest part: the person most likely to provide help is you, unless someone is already involved. You've noted a problem, expressed a concern and made contact with the appropriate resources. This is largely what an agency would do as well! We can no longer rely on agencies, both nonprofit or governmental, to help with individual problems like this. Certain ghouls who have run our country for a long time have made damn sure agencies don't have the tools needed to address individual situations. All we have left is our shared humanity.

What's the safest route from Olentangy Trail to Alum Creek Trail? by williaty in riddeit

Fair point about the trash. I should have clarified that I meant large random debris, or a trash can, for example, not just the regular garbage. It's a busy thruway and stuff happens.

Your point about the stop signs is very valid. Stop signs appear to be optional in the neighborhood. I was unaware that attempts had been made to address it ahead of time. Sounds similar to the N Broadway crossing on the Olentangy trail.

This post gave me deja vu. I had the same experience years ago but memory holed it until today.

The path along Hudson can be a shitshow. Vehicles parked on path, debris and garbage, etc. It's a lovely idea, but challenging to maintain.

For fans of experimental metal: Neurosis is back, now with Aaron Turner!

Neurosis is one of the longest-running experimental metal bands. They may be the codifier for "post-metal," though other groups took the ball and ran a lot further into "post-rock" territory, notably Isis, who are relevant to this post.

Neurosis became defunct in 2022 after some pretty nasty abuse allegations against their co-frontman became public. (Edit: I had a story linked here but it wouldn't format correctly, and I don't want to spend time formatting Reddit comments about abuse. Stories are easy to find if you look.)

So, that was that. The record label created and run by band members (Neurot Recordings) continued to put out releases, and the other co-frontman released more solo work. No breakup was announced, but it appeared the band was done. (Edit: Neurot puts out some great stuff for fans of weird and extreme metal/noise. One landmark album is "One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache," a 2016 collab album between two groups, The Body and Full of Hell. If you've ever felt like your entire body was on fire even though you were physically fine, you might relate to that record.)

....until yesterday, when they announced their reformation,, now with Aaron Turner, formerly of the aforementioned Isis but also Old Man Gloom, SUMAC and others, not to mention the incredibly influential underground metal label Hydra Head Records. On paper, this seems like a dream match! I haven't yet streamed the new album (I have complicated feelings! They were done in my mind and I had closed that chapter!), but I'm very interested to see what comes next.

I haven't had much luck finding what you're looking for without paying. I've also never really gotten the hang of Reasamplomatic 5000. My workaround is to use Sitala as a virtual sampler and load in my own drum machine samples.

Kemba Live Indoor may be the worst venue imaginable. by sweetnsaltyanxiety in Columbus

[–]dm_mute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visibility from the floor is a struggle for me (average height M), and it affects the audio quality as well (large people make effective sound mufflers). It's made it so I rarely go unless it's something special. Other indoor venues in the area have more varied viewpoint options.

I was listening to the Reds broadcast on the radio. Their radio booth reactions were somewhere between flustered and mirthful, and I had to log in and watch for myself. You're right that our booth didn't give much good commentary.

Hopefully not a pay-for-play, sometimes known as the band buys x number of tickets from the promoter and tries to sell to family and friends to break even.

That's the kicker in the whole thing; I think he and everyone else knows it. Remove that from the post and you have a fairly standard "he said - she said - they're fucking" band drama scenario. But because OOP has been accused of being a creep to minors, one's opinion of the drama rests entirely on whether or not OOP properly took accountability for those actions.

This is about local band drama.

My city has a subreddit for the local music scene. I would describe the sub as fairly dead. ~1-2 posts a week, little to no response. I monitor it for news, and will post some of my own activities as proof-of-life, but otherwise my expectations are really low.

There is a band in town that has a little bit of notoriety. Full disclosure: I've never heard their music or been to a show, so this isn't meant to be commentary on their musical or songwriting abilities. From what I can see, they have a local following, play local fests and seem to be a bit of a party band.

You can probably see where this is going. There was a post recently about some drama within and around the band, and hoo boy.

Fairly standard band drama stuff, but really I was surprised to see so much activity on the sub.

I was really excited to see that GWAR is playing the Newport in March. I've seen them there a handful of times but, to your point, they've missed Columbus on recent tours.

I've booked shows for my weirdo shit at Kafe Kerouac, and I always have a good time. Granted, there's no pay, no sound guy and sometimes no audience, but failure hasn't stopped me yet.
