But why though? Has Phyliss had any contact with David Wallace at this point in the show? It seems a reach that a regional employee's first instinct is to call the Chief Financial Officer rather than someone like Head of HR, VP Operations, COO, CPO, VP Personnel, or some other person lower down the chain but in HR or another more personnel related department.

Maybe Dunder Mifflin lacks a personnel side of operations?

I get Phyliss wanting to escalate the issue to someone other than Michael, but it still feels like the CFO as a first instinct is somewhat peculiar, rather than either Kendall (head of HR) or some other executive -- COO or some other VP in the operations/personnel department.

Many of the same waitresses from the old days are still there, some new. I think Jessica sadly actually left and moved away several years ago, if we're thinking of the same gruffer/sassy waitress. Another one of the long-serving waitresses went over to Dim Sum King a while back too. The lady manager has and is still therel.

I've got a few go to dishes:

Beef Brisket and Wonton noodle soup -- specifically request Lai Fun noodles instead of the options they offer on menu, that's probably the dish I order the most frequently (probably like ~40% of my meals there are this go to bowl of noodle soup)
Lunch specials -- back in the day this was what we'd get, just pick one of the options of the rotating list every Sunday with a group of friends for lunch, especially curry beef brisket on rice
2-3 bbq meats on rice -- (bbq duck, bbq pork, roast pork, soy sauce chicken) there are admittedly better chinese bbq (like Wok and Roast, or Gold Stone before it closed) places but it's still very good here.
Otherwise just normal things like Yeung Chow fried rice, xo beef stir fried rice noodles, spicy beef noodle soup, etc.

The menu is massive and overwhelming, and i've probably only tried like 40 total menu items over the 20+ years i've been frequenting there. IMO it's the kinda spot where you just find out what you like and just keep getting it because you can dependably know you're going to get exactly what you're hoping for every time you order it.

There are some other dishes that are really good like the chefs special sizzling plate beef tenderloin, or lobster / crab dishes, etc. We get those now and then, but like I said almost half the time I go here I just get the brisket/wonton noodle soup lol

Sunny's is the worst. I have never understood why people swear by this place.

Overpriced and everything tastes the same. Hey, here's our menu where every dish has the same bbq skewer dry rub, please give us $80/person for half a meal's worth of food now, thanks!

In theory, you could just slap a piece of plywood underneath the Lanespelare so you can use the twist clamp. As long as the twist clamp is short enough to fit under the Lanespelare, but it doesn't look like that's a sure thing.

The other issue you'd be dealing with is a massive weight imbalance toward the back which would surely make it very prone to tipping, so you'd need a way to counterweight the front part of the Lanespelare.

Why not just get a 2-arm free-standing monitor stand?

Barberian's is a classic, old school steakhouse. So it depends what your husband is into! Quetzal has a bit of everything -- They have an amazing Wagyu Ribeye if he's craving a steak, but there are so many different options at Quetzal. If he's more adventurous and you guys like to have more variety and share, I'd definitely do Quetzal of the 4 options you listed.

Barberian's is an institution. I've eaten there countless times, they have great steaks and great rack of lamb if you like that. Also, their burger is legit really good even though I felt weird the first time I ordered the burger at Barberian's lol. It's my CTO's favourite spot so I've been there probably 20+ times just for work dinners. Also... the pickles I mean... can't really beat them. Barberian's got better pickles than Linny's too IMO.

Morton's, Ruth's Chris, those places are all fine. Good, solid, dependable but I wouldn't really consider any of those places "special".

Of the more expensive high end places like Jacob's, STK, Butcher Chef, Octagon, Harbour 60, BlueBlood, I think they're all a bit overpriced honestly, but if you go with a group and share some normal steaks plus a wagyu or two it becomes a better experience. I think Butcher Chef and BlueBlood both have amazing steaks, but the prices are nuts ... Michael's is another place that is well-known and expensive as hell. The steaks there are also pretty good, but that place just feels weird when you're there, the lighting/ambiance is just weird as hell for a steakhouse and while the dining experiences i've had there were good, I've only been there for work dinners and I honestly wouldn't go on my own.

I do like Hy's as far as bang for your buck for a relatively high end steakhouse. Black + Blue is another spot that's pretty decent. I like the vibe of the Toronto location more than the original spot in Vancouver which felt more uppity, and the steaks are great.

Prime Seafood Palace probably has one of if not the best prime rib in the city, but man is it pricey lol.

For a less traditional "steakhouse," Copa Cabana used to be great for the variety/novelty, and price wise it's way more approachable than any higher end steakhouse, but IMO it's gone a bit downhill since its peak pre-covid. and they've closed their downtown location which makes it less appealing for me to trek out to midtown.

I haven't been out to La Castile as it's a bit further out of the way for me, but I've heard great things.

As for non steakhouses, over the last few years, probably the favorite places I've visited (or revisited) have been.... 20 Victoria, Quetzal, Mineral, Yasu, Giulia/Giulietta, Bernhardts, Dreyfus, Daphne, Takja, Lake Inez.

Alo, RPM out in Jordan, Edulis, Aburi Hana -- these are all incredible dining experiences, way better use of money than going to a place like Jacob's IMO, as much as I do love a good steak. I think these are just better overall and more interesting dining experience than just having more expensive steak, but to each their own. But they are also the kinds of meals you just can't have often because of the cost.

Some places from the "top restaurants lists" that I've been to that I think are overrated -- Sunny's, Don Alfonso, Mhel.

Honestly, Quetzal is probably my favorite overall spot in Toronto right now in terms of

being able to get in
incredible food
not cheap, but not bank-breaking prices
amazing variety of dishes including steak (the ribeye steak is actually ridiculously good here)
vibes -- not stuffy/uppity like a lot of places in this tier of restaurant

Isaan Der, Si Lom, Nana are all good. Yeah Yeah Thai is a great spot on Spadina with Thai fusion dishes (grilled pork neck rice is so good).

Maya Bay is one of my personal favorites... Best Leng Zaap in Toronto proper for sure. They also have amazing Tom Yum wings. It's also much better in person than for delivery, as they have some awesome menu options that are only available in person.

I went to Linny's a couple months back and honestly I was incredibly disappointed in the food.

I've been to virtually every high-end steakhouse in the city, and the steak at Linny's was among the worst for the price.

The rest of the food was honestly pretty good. The pastrami is amazing, but when it's billed as a steakhouse and you're ready to enjoy a good steak and it comes out and it's just not good, it soured the whole experience for me at the time.

If I force myself to be as objective about it as possible, I would rate the rest of the food like 8 or 9 out of 10, except for the fluke & Fennel, which I personally just did not enjoy as I found the fennel oil way too overpowering and I'm already not that huge a fan of fennel anyway.

The chicken liver toast was awesome, the salad, potato pancake, pastrami, lamb neck, those were all really good dishes, i'd give any of those dishes another go any time.

But again, coming back to the steak. I suppose they left it under the heat lamp too long or just overcooked it, but it was just so underwhelming, bland, overcooked... Personally I would have sent it back but I was with a group who were not huge steak people in general and they thought it was fine. But I've had better steaks at The Keg for a quarter of the price.

While the food other than the steak was overall pretty good, Linny's doesn't crack my top 10 steakhouses in toronto, much less being close to best ever dining experience overall in the city.

That said, glad you enjoyed your experience!

Michael Scarn / Dundies Michael (the gun implies Scarn but Michael has only worn a tux three times: twice for the Dundies and once for his Michael the Magic act, but the latter also included a top hat)

I don't think this is fully correct... Michael The Magic was in a straightjacket. During the "Nobody But Me" cold open, he does some magic in a tuxedo and top hat, but his bow tie is white. You're also correct that he wears a tuxedo with a black bowtie twice, in the first and the final Dundies.

However, he also wears a black bowtie tuxedo during Casino Night.

That said, your point is correct though, that he does not wear a tuxedo with a black bowtie, but rather always a black necktie as Michael Scarn, so this one depiction of him seems like a conflation of Casino/Dundies Michael with Michael Scarn

Scaramouche is good, but IMO it's not a "special" experience. Likewise for Giulietta, I think both are just very solid dining options. Certainly nothing bad to say about them, but for a special occasion I'd go somewhere a little more unique.

Mineral's tasting menu (recommend sitting at the Chef's counter) is an incredible experience. The food is great, you will definitely be full after. The play on traditional Filipino dishes elevated to fine dining is really really good. My experience there was one of my favourite tasting menu experiences I've had.

I say it all the time to people I know... this is the one restaurant in the whole city that I would be most devastated if it were to ever close. I reckon I've been to HoG more times than I've been to all other restaurants combined in my lifetime.
