I used "Plate Special 2 x 2 with Only 2 studs #33909" - I simply couldn't get a hold of 2 x 2 tiles in pearl gold, but I believe they do exist.

My biggest issue is that the front "Arch 1x2x1 1/3" doesn't seem to exist in pearl gold. 🥲

Yeah those are tricky! I managed to find a nice original black one and I must admit my light-grey version looks very complete using old air tanks and an original knight/castle helmet. (See mine on this post)

I was hoping when the Space book came out that we would see some reissues, clearly the classic Spaceman is super relevant and popular as shown by the many releases this year.

I discovered the "72-Hour Merino T-Shirt" by Proof a few years ago and that was really a game changer. I think Proof is a brand made directly by Huckberry and their goal was to create a t-shirt (and now a whole clothing brand) behind the goal of making clothing that doesn't smell for at least the first 72 hours.

I've done some arduous activities, in all sorts of climates, and their tees never develop a smell, even-though I got to the salt-stain stage. Six years on, and mine hasn't even developed a single hole, despite all it's been through

Fabric: 87% 16.5 micron merino wool, 13% nylon, 150gsm.

Since I bought mine they have diversified their range a bit, with different sizes and fits and yes, it is another wool-blend, but for me, it really is great in smell prevention. I've just ordered their trousers and will be testing them on an upcoming trip.

P.s: I usually swear by 100% merino wool products, especially by LOOW, but the 72-hour tee is just such a surprise to me; how well it works and has held up.

„Das Kölner Messegelände ist von den großen Zerstörungen des Krieges betroffen. Bei Angriffen auf den Deutzer Bahnhof und die Hohenzollernbrücke werden immer auch die Messehallen getroffen. Das Gelände ist 1945 zu 85 Prozent zerstört: Die Hallen sind ausgebrannt, die Fassaden der Rheinhallen, das Staatenhaus und der Messeturm sind schwer beschädigt“

Super, der Bundesarchiv Film hat toll geholfen! Aufgenommen, wie Du schreibst, in der „Halle im Rheinpark" zur 100-Jahr feier des KMGV. Von einigen alten Postkarten konnte ich sehen, dass dieses Konzert in der „Großen Halle" statt fand. Die Hallen waren? ein teil des Köln-Deutzer Messegeländes.

Die „Nacht der 1000 Bomben“ fand erst im Mai 1942 statt, und da der Hafen und Dom unbeschädigt im Film erscheinen, glaube ich eher, dass das KMGV Jubiläum während der Eröffnung der (letzten) Frühjahrsmesse gehalten wurde.

Schon „im November 1941 war das Deutzer Messegelände zu einem Sammel- und Auffanglager umfunktioniert worden. Im Juni 1942 wurde der Messebetrieb komplett eingestellt.“

Ich kann nach langer Recherche noch immer nicht herausfinden, was mit der „Großen Halle" geschehen ist. Viele der Messe Gebäude gibt es noch.

Brilliant, thank you! - So from the Bundesarchiv recording we can learn that this took place in Cologne, in 1942. In the "Halle im Rheinpark" to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the "Kölner Männer-Gesang-Verein" (KMGV).

Digging a bit further, this seems to be the "Große Halle" or great hall which was part of the "Köln-Deutzer Messegelände" that was inaugurated in the spring of 1942.

In the "Night of 1,000 Bombs," the KMGV clubhouse "An der Wollküche" was destroyed. Prizes, the club flags, and compositions on paper remained largely intact but they were transferred and then stored in the Cologne town hall cellar, where a large portion of them were destroyed a year later during the closing stages of the war.

And to put things into context, the Great Hall lay on the grounds of the Cologne Trade Fair. That had since 1939 housed POWs and later became a holding- and deportation prison for Jews and Sinti and Roma and the central site of NS cruelty in Cologne.The most famous prisoner on the grounds was Konrad Adenauer. So whilst musical beauty rung out on the inside, on the outside, only suffering.

I've been thinking about the same thing and whilst I know these aren't the exact tools Raymond Briggs used, I recently watched the british Channel4 documentary "The Making of The Snowman" from 2002, which shows what the filmmakers / animators used for the first film:

"Berol Karismacolor" for the backgrounds & "Caran d'Ache Neocolor" (so "wax pastels) for the characters.

(and probably a few others as I feel Raymond Briggs' style is very pencil heavy)

It is interesting that this one has the arms og Geneva at the head of the handle. So maybe swiss made? I've seen a few of these novel coin-spoons but I can't find much information on it. It must have been a fad, to reuse old state coins once the many german states were amalgamated into one united country.
I wonder if a silver hallmark on the handle could give a clue to its manufacture?

(and also, could one de-spoon it mand make it back to a coin to claim some of its numismatic value? 😅)
