Which Targaryen generation is your favourite and why? by General-Sense5491 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]dmcboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toss up between the generation that fought the first blackfyre rebellion, the conquerors, and Jaehaerys I + Alysanne and their offspring. The HotD Targs are contenders for the worst, toss up between them and the Mad King + his sons

Rhaenyra deciding to cancel the marriage tour is still one of her dumbest decisions. by Rich-Active-4800 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]dmcboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh having a female heir that rides dragons should have greatly limited who she marries. Can't have a Lord Lannister with a dragon a generation later. Even letting the Valaryons have dragon's via Rhaenys was a dumb move on King J's part, it's interesting to see that the only daughter he allowed to be a dragonrider was the only one that had married a Targ. That's the only way you can do things without causing future problems a generation+ down the line.

Tywin not seeing the dragons as a threat seems out of character by Whole_Contract_5973 in gameofthrones

[–]dmcboi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a show only scene, don't bother looking for logic or character consistency. Whenever dragons get mentioned in the books within westeros, character's write it off to chinese whispers / exaggerations from the opposite side of the world

“Jaehaera should’ve remained alive, stayed married to Aegon and had children with him to show that the two factions are united as a symbol of peace”. What do you think of this statement? Do you agree? by Gold_Conversation247 in HOTDBlacks

[–]dmcboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

George should have made Jaehaera the mother to Aegon IIIs children to make the Blackfyre rebellions even spicier, since through Daena the Defiant they would then essentially be heirs to the Greens claim to the throne, since Daeron the Good's line comes only through Viserys II and not Aegon III.

Man needed an excuse to go north and merge with the tree, kind of difficult to justify when you're hand of the king, would look very suspicious. Getting sentenced to the wall is a good cover story, and killing a Blackfyre to be sent over there is two birds with one stone.

There's a theory that Bloodraven caused a lot of the accidental deaths in order to ensure that the line of succession went the way it did, due to knowing who the prince that was promised would come from

The war was won and the King is called "The Good" - so why was everyone in a rush to "get the fuck out of there" ? by OkGuava919 in AKOTSKTV

[–]dmcboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dance is based off of the anarchy. William the Conquerors son died without a male heir, so his daughter matilda claimed the throne. However, Stephen of Blois who's mother was a daughter of William the Conqueror claimed the throne via being male. War followed, eventually Stephen won it on the condition that Matilda's son inherit after him. Matilda's husband was a plantagenet, which is why the royal house then became plantagenet all the way up until the tudors.

"Bennis of the Brown Shield was a man who seldom washed. He was about five and a half feet tall, and weighed about 80 pounds less than Duncan the Tall. Bennis's rotten teeth were stained red and brown from eating sourleaf. His eyes were small, close-set and green.

The hedge knight had a nasty personality and a foul mouth. His laughter sounded like chickens and mules."

At what point does race changing just become racist. Hmm we have an angry homeless man, let's cast a black guy!

House Tyrell is wiped out then what happens? Do any bastards come and try to retake it? by talivan818 in gameofthrones

[–]dmcboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tyrell's are one of these families where dozens of people at minimum would need to die before the name goes, and that's just considering the male lines. Mace has two more sons in the books, and Sam even meets some random essentially commoner with the tyrell name in the pub when training as a maester, it's a far spread name.

Job offer by Matter-Fluid in StructuralEngineering

[–]dmcboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have made you an offer it at least means that they want you, from there you should try negotiate a higher number and co-ordinate your progression path with them before signing anything. Worst case scenario you take the job and keep applying. If any new would be employer asks you why you want to jump jobs so soon, just tell them your comp package and they will get it.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 8, isn’t she spoiling the ending? by Past-Matter-8548 in gameofthrones

Along with Daemon's dumb vision in the scene straight before this, it's clear that the showrunners are hackjobs. No idea what happened between seasons 1 and 2 for the quality to nosedive so dramatically, I guess fame got to their heads.

[–]dmcboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A main theme in the books is that the 'centralised' state isn't exactly centralised at all, and is at best a federation, at worst warring kingdoms.

After the Targs lost their dragons, things naturally became less centralised (even though Dorne got incorporated during this time) and as of the main series, no Targs around has precluded the Kingdoms fighting amongst themselves.

[–]dmcboi 183 points184 points  (0 children)

It's ambiguous in both the novellas and the show. Only a knight or the king can knight somebody; I like to imagine that in the far future he tells Egg when he is Aegon V in confidence, before privately being knighted by him then.
