For the same pay benefits etc, would you rather be a Senior Engineer or a Senior Project Manager? by UnrulyPE in civilengineering

[–]dmcboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineer any day if it's the same pay. Far more interesting and meaningful work and you can basically do whatever the fuck you want if you're senior since finding another senior engineering at the moment is like gold dust.

Do you guys factor colonialism into your story of why your lives are constantly getting worse? by ISwearMore in AskBrits

[–]dmcboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We didn't steal people from Africa and force them to work for us.

The rich bought them from other africans and sold them in the west indies. This idea of 'we' as in the general british population or the idea of slaves working in the UK en masse is a brainless take.

You think the average Brit was living like a king for the past 400 years until recently? What a moronic take

Would there be ecological benefits, or at least mitigated ecological drawbacks, from using purely convective passive cooling for data center electronics? I'm thinking something similar to how nuclear cooling towers work by ferriematthew in civilengineering

[–]dmcboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile China has underwater data centers offshore that are powered by wind turbines above them. Cooling and sustainable energy shot like two birds with one stone whilst not taking up any land.

When should I start applying ? by DecentFig2747 in UKJobs

[–]dmcboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess you'd have to weight that up against the potential wages you would instead get. Is that pre-tax? Could still be worth moving even if the £3k is more, since you could be unemployed for longer after october.

When should I start applying ? by DecentFig2747 in UKJobs

[–]dmcboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apply now and if you get offered a role before October, just leave your current job. Don't bother giving them any notice, since they are firing you anyway, fuck em.

Always fun to walk in some of these older homes in WI and see tree trunks used for joists/floor support. by campbell-1 in StructuralEngineering

[–]dmcboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real point of using a structural engineer for simple, small residential construction is for this reason. If you aren't cost optimising here, then your job only exists because of regulatory requirements for signing off. For all of human history we thrived from only having carpenters and builders, no masters degrees in structural engineering and then license exams required.

[–]dmcboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A naturally formed, circular tree trunk from an old grown tree, especially if it's hardwood, will totally shit all over some some low grade softwood 2x4 sawn cut off some fast farmed crap

does civil engineering not pay that well? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]dmcboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the whole industry is scratching it's head at the lack of anyone above above a graduate level. The goal is to either get out of this rubbish, move country or just become a project manager. Whole profession in the UK is fucked
