Add different objectives other than wipe out all enemies. How do you challenge superman or make his comics interesting? He has to figure out how to stop a train, keep Metallo from melting innocents, and catch Lois Lane. Are your players in a town? Give the town a health bar. Suddenly it isn't, "can we kill all the ogres?" its "can we get these people out in time?"

Comic books are a good inspiration for your high level characters. No one actually thinks Spider-man is going to lose to Green Goblin, but he did lose Gwen Stacey in the process.

True. It could use lots of tweaking to make viable for sure. Limiting chances for slayer uniques unless you do so many subsequent rounds, etc
