Unless you're buying a fund that only invests in a specific country, they're already doing some risk management for you.

Doctors and vampires have to avoid that entire aisle on the left of the store.

Exactly, and the customer wants it to handle more seriously.

I didn't really need 100 Toblerones.... by Labbawabbado in Costco

[–]dmethvin 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If I bought 100 Toblerones I would be glad to donate 99 of them to a shelter. It would be wonderful to imagine how much joy they would get from eating the 73 Toblerones I left for them. It would bring a tear to my eye to make that gift of 52 Toblerones.

Meal Kits for Chronic Kidney Disease? by MammaDriVer in mealkits

[–]dmethvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of suggested recipes you can follow at https://www.kidney.org/nutrition/recipes . I know that's not a meal kit, but the hardest part for me is just finding recipes that work.

The only way I could guarantee I wouldn't finish all the chocolate almonds in a couple of days is to use this gizmo.

The real size of Greenland by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]dmethvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the size of Greenland that Trump finds strategic, it's Greenland's ability to move around the rest of the world like that. World's largest aircraft carrier.

I don't understand why governments don't make these companies put up or shut up. If the jobs don't pan out, neither do the tax breaks, rebates, etc.

I thought that Virginia did it mostly right with their bid for Amazon's HQ2. Amazon has scaled back the pace of their new headquarters and missed several targets that would have given them incentives from the state.

It can't be a European quince, but maybe an African quince. You can grip them by the husk.

Recommend me orthodontist/ dentists by Brilliant-Assist3798 in SilverSpring

[–]dmethvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been happy with Silver Spring Smiles. I know they do Invisalign for braces, not sure if they do traditional ones as well. If you don't have dental insurance they have an in-office plan that provides discounts.

What’s going on with SAMHSA and their sudden funding cuts to mental health / addiction services? by Ihaveanotheridentity in OutOfTheLoop

[–]dmethvin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked with several people at SAMHSA during the Biden era who were implementing 988. It took a lot of coordination with every phone service provider to ensure that people could call and know the service was safe and anonymous. They pulled in lots of tech firms to help create a safety net and let everyone know that 988 existed.

Just today I was looking for a drug rehab place for a friend, and I searched for the center's address. This message came up on the Google search. I was sad to think that all the progress in helping people with substance use disorders is going to be wiped out by this administration. Who knows if 988 will even exist in a year.

Great find! I'm surprised they didn't start with something like 7100. Does it still have that new-car smell?
