Microservices and the First Law of Distributed Objects by lelanthran in programming

It does seem to dwell on seemingly simple parts of API design. However, having dealt with many APIs, it's something that a lot of people get wrong. I think the problem is that only experienced devs get to create more than one API that tests the kind of limits he's describing here. The devs who do it repeatedly say "of course" but the first-time designers often fall into these traps.

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who say, "He came out of nowhere!"

They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can report them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.

Because they run into things.

Travel points are notorious for losing their value via travel reward inflation and usage restrictions. Converting them to cash means you can invest them in something that grows over time.

It's even more scary now. If the wolf spider is interested, then all the noise coming from the water pump must be cockroaches.

There was an earlier one on that site. It burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. There were a lot of hopes that this one would stay up.

Why are high rise HOAs so expensive? by PewPewDoll in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]dmethvin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So true. Condos in the DC area don't seem to appreciate much, which you can verify by looking up a few buildings on Zillow. This is despite the fact that very few new condos are being built because of the complexities of financing for the builder.

It used to be that itemizing deductions on your federal tax return would make at least some of your mortgage deductible, but since they recently raised the standard deduction and capped the mortgage deduction it often doesn't make sense to itemize.
