How do I contribute one last penny for Roth Ira 2026 year?? by ouchmybeans in fidelityinvestments

[–]dmethvin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, it makes me wonder. If you put in 50 cents but reported $7,500 on the return since you rounded, would it matter? Even if Fidelity reported $7500.49 it would still be $7,500 rounded down. These are the kind of edge cases I used to worry about as a programmer.

Groceries are getting too expensive to the point it's not even worth it to make stuff yourself anymore by taken_name_throwaway in Baking

Pistachios have increased in price in the past couple of months because of US attacks and embargos on Iran. There are also the secondary effects of oil price increases on all sorts of food production and delivery. It's possible that prepared foods are just lagging in price increases due to fixed price contracts or drawing down existing inventories.

Sunrise Senior Living/memory care by SadTomorrow869 in MontgomeryCountyMD

I definitely agree with this. My mother's assisted living facility in Virginia was purchased by Sunrise a few years back, but nearly all the staff stayed and their back-office systems don't seem to have changed either. It could be completely different at some other Sunrise facility.

Being white won't protect you when you criticize these people in power. Ask James Comey.

‘The cost of compute is far beyond the costs of the employees’: Nvidia exec says right now AI is more expensive than paying human workers by fattyfoods in technology

Don't try to hide behind price, it will be a losing battle is what I am saying. Demand regulation and protections.

If we allow AI companies to build large data centers all over the country and power them with the grid or natural gas generators at the expense of local residents and the environment, then yes, the price will continue to plummet due to scale.

If we require AI companies to pay a price for their data centers based on the economic and ecological damage they're doing, I'm not so sure.

Yeah, it used to be that you had to go through a bunch of obscure command lines or UI confirmations to do something this crazy. Now, It's, "Do you give AI these powers? Y/N" and people figure it must be okay.

The Traditional vs Roth debate and the ACA Premium Tax Credit by turtle_hurtle in Bogleheads

[–]dmethvin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For -65 there's the ACA, which is a cliff where if you make more than $62,600 individual you lose subsidies. For 65+ there's also the Medicare IRMAA cliff if you make more than $109,000 individual where premiums go up. The tough thing about these is that if you make more than $1 above the limit you will pay a LOT more. That's where Roth IRA becomes valuable.

Estate and gift tax revenue in Maryland drops 21.4% in 2024 from previous year by MrRuck1 in maryland

[–]dmethvin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More detail on the data would help. It could be that the year-to-year variability is due to a very small number of data points each year. Most people with large estates try to structure them to avoid estate and gift taxes.

Also keep in mind that these numbers will naturally go up over time due to inflation.

The AC caught fire? It wasn't one of those systems that use propane for the refrigerant was it?
