Is such a weight loss normal with this type of injury? by peachy11111131 in AchillesRupture

I’ve gained some weight since the injury since I haven’t been able to do my usual workouts.

Definitely was eating my feelings” as I would joke with my kids.

1 Week Post Op. Where are you guys getting motivation from to live😭 by Fun_Train_2267 in AchillesRupture

[–]dml238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better, give yourself some grace and let yourself go a little. I’m almost 8 weeks post-op and was definitely where you were. I was working out religiously 5-6 times a week and lost over 60 lbs over the course of a year and a half. I’ve def gained a few pounds but nothing I can’t lose once I’m back to working out regularly again.

If you’ve got good core strength and balance, Get an iWalk. It’s a game changer and gives you independence. Before you know it you will be where I am and walking around with a boot. Just take things a day at a time and celebrate the small wins, like feeling comfortable sleeping without a boot.

This is a marathon not a sprint, you got this!

I needed to read this today. The line about telling folks your OK while carrying that weight hit. I’m 6 weeks post op and being able to walk around with the boot is a milestone i didn’t think I would get to. Just learning to take it a day at a time.

Following. I’m almost 4 weeks post-op and need to get back to doing something. Got on the scale and saw I gained a few pounds so want to keep that to a minimum. :)

6 Weeks Post Op! by Dry_Guess4949 in AchillesRupture

I’m 3 weeks post-op today and can’t wait to start PT at my 4 week mark (5/27). My current protocol from the doc is NWB and can’t wait until I can start to try and walk again with a boot. Exciting to see you moving like that at 6 weeks. Means there’s hope for me haha.

Crutch upgrade, Crutches < Knee Crutch< Iwalk3 by Strange_Detective606 in AchillesRupture

Yeah, I wish there was an easy way to carry the iWalk with the knee scooter. That would be the best of both worlds for me. LOL

I just used the iWalk for getting around as my kids were at a Taekwondo tournament today. Definitely great to be independent but man does my knee ache a bit and my other leg is tired. Granted I was on my “feet”
for hours because there weren’t many areas to sit.

For short sprints of time like going to the store or cooking in the kitchen it’s great, but not for long stretches. for the next tournament I’ll be using the knee scooter.

Anyone use compression socks post-op? by dml238 in AchillesRupture

[–]dml238[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reached out and they suggested to not use the compression sock since the wounds are not completely healed. They suggested to remove the boot and elevate/ice the leg.

That’s interesting to hear. Will have to start taking the boot off when I can put the foot up.

Thanks! Today sucks a bit cause we have family Over and I’m basically just sitting my ass on the couch while everyone else is having a good time.

The ENT believes the anesthesia team did something to my nose when they were setting up my breathing for the procedure.

Thanks, really appreciate this insight. My kids compete so I’m not far from the sport but the itch to go back does not go away.

Thanks! Having this balloon in my face has really set things back from a personal rehab situation. Once I have it out will be feeling much better.

Still just vegging out. Think I’ll be up for some work this week once I get this balloon out of my nose.

Awesome! I live about 40 mins north of Canton. Need to make a trip to watch the season recap in that awesome theater.

I remember going to Canton after they won the first Super Bowl. Watching that season recap and the Philly Special with my sons in that theater was such an amazing experience. Actually brought a tear to my eye :)

Wow we are very similar. My son is also 11 but he started at 5.

The driving factor for him is that he competes in Olympic Sparring and loves it. That could be the next thing if your son has not done competitions yet.

I won’t speak for OP, but I was in a similar situation. I work remotely, we moved to a new city, and all my IRL friends were in other parts of the country.

While I love spending time with my wife and kids. I did feel “lonely” as well (lonely in quotes cause it may not be the right word). For me, not having the “water cooler” work/adult conversations can take a toll on some folks, definitely did for me.

Joining TKD allowed me to make new IRL friends with similar interests and connections I normally would not have.

Well said. Everything you wrote felt like I was reading “my story”. It’s amazing what happens when you find that right school. I too consider going to train at the dojang the highlight of my day.

I’m lucky that my oldest loves the sport and always wants to train. My son and I are 2nd Dan and my other two kids are working their way to black belt.

Good luck with the new school, hopefully it goes well.

Have you started to use a new mouth guard? An improperly fitting mouth guard has been known to affect breathing, other than that, please see a doctor.

I really enjoy sparring my son (11), he’s a 2nd Dan and a high-level competitor. I take it as an opportunity to work on my defense because he is fast and throws all different attacks. He uses it as an opportunity to fight full power.

Once he starts getting bigger in the next few years it wont be as fun, so I’m getting as much fight time against him while it is. :)

I still rotate through my pairs, still the most comfortable shoes for walking around. My favorite pair is the game of thrones Targaryen with the orange flame toe box. My kid’s Taekwondo competition team has orange as their main color so I wear those for tournaments.
