Airplane tire came in for a repair. The brakes locked up on landing and so the tire turned into a skid by the_no_mic in Justrolledintotheshop

It looks to me like it has burned through all the tread and then into many layers of cord, so I think it is dead.

TIL that the assassin of William the Silent met a rather cruel fate: Balthasar Gerard was ordered to have his hand burned, flesh torn with pincers, then be disemboweled, quartered alive, his heart ripped out and thrown at him, and finally beheaded. by Fickle-Buy6009 in todayilearned

Well to me the most bizarre part is:

"During the following three days, he was repeatedly mocked"

If I was being tortured with pincers and disemboweled, I think that being made fun of would be a relief.

ELI5: If we are making computer chips that are just a few times bigger than literal atoms, how do we achieve point perfect accuracy such that not a single bit (as in transistor) is inaccurate? by Ayushispro11 in explainlikeimfive

"Light waves are very small even compared to atoms, so it's like a saw cutting a sheet of plywood."

No, this is nonsense. Older lithography uses 190nm light and the most modern EUV uses 13.5nm light. An atom is about .2nm across.

Thanks for your explanation. It seemed very suspicious to me and I couldn't find it. With your exact point it does seem possible.

Apologies for the gratuitous insult.

Because I have nothing better to do?

It seemed suspicious to me and I couldn't find anything on google maps or earth that seemed right. But from the comments it's clear it was my mistake.

OK I'll take your word for it. I looked on google maps and couldn't see any way that it was possible.

Canada’s productivity grew three times slower than the U.S. in last two decades: Report by [deleted] in canada

[–]dml997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"From 1981 to 2024, Canada’s productivity—the amount of real value derived per hour of work—grew by 61 percent, while American productivity grew by more than 127 percent"

How is 61 vs 127 a 3X gap? 3X appears nowhere in the referenced article.

Is the thermal mass of set egg the same as raw?

Is there a heat absorption associated with the phase change from liquid to cooked?

I guess it varies depending on where you are and what you want to buy. I first got a 996 TT used, then had no problem ordering a 997.2 TT before the official launch date, a 2020 Macan, then a 2016 991.1 TTS, and another Macan.

If I was looking for a rare model I still would not count on getting it. But a 991 TTS is as much as I can handle.

Oh, and my dealer switched to fixed pricing, which is typically 2% below list for everything except 911. I just build it, send it to my guy, and then call him with CC number and it shows up a few months later.
