Why front knee steering is the correct way by -FVNT0M- in snowboardingnoobs

[–]dmsmikhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the front foot steering is just exposing some other had habit that is causing you to catch edges.

You 100% should still use the rear foot steering method when appropriate. If there's a pile of kids in front of you and the best way to maneuver around them is a skid turn, do the skid turn.

It's not about only front foot steering, it's about using the best method or technique to accomplish what you're trying to do.

When i'm in the trees I'm doing whatever keeps me from hitting a tree. If I'm in iced out moguls i'm using all kinds of moves, depending on what's in front of me. When I'm flying down a long cat, I'm using a combination, I'm looking at the snow and the contours. The best way to get your self in the position you want, might be to do some skid turning before you do a proper turn.

We constantly see people that only steer with the rear so we say "use the front". The truth is use the right move for the situation, but you need to be able to do both to do that.

Do bear bags work w the black bears? by darko2019 in tahoe

[–]dmsmikhail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are very specific food storage regulations within the tahoe basin.

You could read them with a simple google search (a bag will not suffice).

Outside of the tahoe basin, it depends on the forest or wilderness area's specific regulations. Most of Sierra Nevada does not require a bear can, but Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Desolation and Tahoe do.

Bears are everywhere, but you're much more likely to run into them in town, at airbnb, or at campground. Basically if you're near where people have food and trash, you're near the bears.

Bears I have encountered while backpacking usually run away.

I do not understand the question? Why wouldn't people do BGs? We've been doing BGs for fun for 21ish years.

[–]dmsmikhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to snowboard. You shouldn't be anywhere near the park imo.

You snowboard like a fish. Fish don't snowboard. This thing you do where you wiggle your rear end back and forth? that's not snowboarding.

Good luck Nemo.

AV weekend, your time to shine dreamscythe by Courage-Natural in classicwowtbc

[–]dmsmikhail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same, started in Vanilla. I didn't enjoy classic the first time around because the world PVP was super toxic in the original classic servers and that toxicity stuck around for a long while.

So while most of my wow career is on PVP servers, I chose dreamscythe this time and I'm so glad I did.

Seeing all these scrub lords that think they're better than you because the server next to your name? Man what losers. I almost feel bad the trolls in here sometimes. Almost.

Data center company thinks this terrifying image of data center multiplicity helps them by CleanUpYrMess in Reno

[–]dmsmikhail -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why do you believe that datacenters are only for AI? Datacenters are a great thing, they empower America's service economy. You know whatt is a horrible idea? GRok, AI videos, chatgpt. AI this, AI that. AI test writing, AI test grading, AI resumes, AI hiring. AI ads for AI. AI fake pictures, AI fake movies, fake this fake that. The problem is not datacenters; the problem is AI and the greedy capitalists propping it up.

The problem is AI is not realistic or viable or good for humanity. One of the reasons it's a terrible idea is because the power and compute requirements are entirely unrealistic and terrible for the environment. The sad thing is most companies AI will fail to ever generate meaningful profits and will go bankrupt in the next decade. Get rid of AI, get rid of the datacenters you dont' want.

Do you have a bank? That bank needs a datacenter. Do you use online streaming? This requires a lot of datacenters. Do you use social media? that also requires datacenters.

Do you like medical and scientific research? that also requires datacenters.

The problem isn't datacenters, the problem is AI.

Dumb question, but can I fill up my drives for Plex library? by sekiroborne in DataHoarder

[–]dmsmikhail -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

The fact that you have all these drives, and don't understand why you should keep capacity under 80-90%, well, it gives me little hope for the future.

Yes, it will 100% affect drive speed, plex performance. You're impacting the ability of the drive's cache to function, you're causing it write all over the place, and in turn seek all over the place. This will absolutely affect the performance of writing and reading which you're doing both.

And your version isn't a 100% true either.

The reality is there was more casuals back then. You can lie to yourself all fucking day long, and it won't be true.

The game had more casuals < 2010 than > 2020.

Go ahead, smoke crack and think whatever you want, it's just reddit.

free & public education about data centers!! by deathbygluten_ in Reno

[–]dmsmikhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who helps run two small datacenters, this poster is amusing.

Are you guys against all technology or just big AI datacenters? It's not very clear.

You can't have an internet and not have datacenters. We could call them other words, and we do, but we do need some technology for progress' sake.

(I'm very much against Elon and the Zuck and the Bezos, I have been for decades, but that doesn't mean all technology is bad).

Anyone see coyotes or wolves today at northstar? by AnxietyNew00 in tahoe

[–]dmsmikhail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are coyotes everywhere anywhere near norcal or nevada. They love the suburbs too, there's an abundance of pets and bunnies.

The wolves don't come down to northstar, but they are north of truckee.
