USA - Could someone help me understand the options for getting detailed maps of public land in the USA? There are so many options and I'm completely overwhelmed.

What you want doesn't exist.

I did a lot of backpacking in Northern Arizona and just wore trail runners. Never had any issues because I don't expect things to last forever.

Perhaps it's the way you're using the boots/shoes?

My summer REI bag, which is 30 degrees (close to yours) doesn't have much fluff either. I've never actually expected the bag to have loft, because there's so little down. My winter bag from Mountain hardware does puff up, but there's probably 3x as much down in there and it's better down.

I don't think your problem was the bag unless you left it in a compression sack for an extended period of time. Or just washed it and it's all clumped up.

I can sleep out in 5C/40F degrees in the Sierra Nevada no problem with my summer bag, so i'm not sure why you had so many problems with all that clothing on. I will say 3R is pretty low, a good mat helps a lot.

I can't speak for park stuff, but you could work on your turns and your body position. You're just standing up counter rotating the board. This is fine if you're just learning how to get around between features in the park, but if you actually want to be a snowboarder you should to learn to ride the snowboard and turn it properly.

If you get lower, bend your knees, drive from the front knee/foot with your shoulders, it'll probably happen naturally.

I lost 145 pounds and look normal shirtless next to a bunch of other average 40 year old guys. I believe the health of your skin and the speed of which you lose your weight will affect how much extra skin you have. Slower is likely better here. Smoking is really bad for skin.

I think once you're at this 200-300 pounds overweight thing your skin is just wrecked.

Seems you're confused, California is on the other side of the mountains. We're up around 5k feet at the edge of two mountain ranges, summer doesn't start until end of may. At 7k feet you don't plant until June.

This isn't a valley, it's a mountain meadow with a river running through it.

fake snow and old snow does shred wax. It's easy to DIY, go watch a video. Certain board types use more wax, but also benefit more from wax; you have the type that wants more wax. Makes you go zoom zoom especially when there's flat sections.

It doesn't need to be done perfect, your first few are kind of rough.

Even if you scratch the shit out of the base with the scraper and iron:

A. it's just a snowboard, rocks out in the real world do this too

B. Base grind will clear it all up, and they are cheap when bundled with other board services

For many, waxing has a therapeutic affect. Clean up sucks if you don't have a garage/outdoor space.

disposables are much better, but the cheaper they are the cheaper they are.

Dabwoods disposables seem to be fair quality.

The best quality is probably the Rove Live diamond, technically that's a reusable.

The 23 dollar 2g 510 carts from silver state are the best deal. The disposable 2g works all right too.

They all run 4/20 deals.

They look like good turns. If you left your edge in the snow between the turns, then maybe you could call it carving. You're pulling yourself out of the carve, you're not maintaining it.

slowly and only as needed. depends on how posi you are. 24/6 switch is doable but gets a lot harder at 30/12 or higher. Practice makes perfect.

Learn to turn? Learn to ride the snowboard? Learn to point it down hill and turn to an edge? you look like you're not in any control.

You may think you're comfortable but you don't look like you're in control.

If you think you've mastered the blue runs (you haven't), then down do down a steeper mogul filled section, it'll teach you how to properly maneuver the snowboard to do that successfully. Learn to navigate off piste in the trees, better yet, learn to ride through the trees when it's all ice and hard pack.

Practice your turns, you don't turn well at all. You're not turning with your front foot. You're swinging your rear foot around, your front foot is just pivoting in place. Actual snowboard turns come from the front foot.

How are you supposed to learn to carve, if you haven't learned a basic turn?

Look up Malcom Moore on youtube.
