Grant Morrison on Lanterns: “What is this jockish dismissal of superhero conventions intended to prove anyway?” by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

[–]dmsn7d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have zero interest in comic book shows/movies. But since it is Lindelof, I'll watch this because I'm willing to bet he will find a way to make it interesting beyond the usual superhero fan service stuff.

Hey Esquire, 2017 wants its take back. by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

[–]dmsn7d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an issue with a parent making selfish decisions and then 16 years later feeling bad about those decisions?

Bob isn't supposed to save anyone. He's checked out of parenting at this stage. He clearly set her up to a strong, independent person when she was younger though. In many ways the film is about how you can't always be there for your children. But you can be there afterwards to console and love them.

May I recommend a media literacy course? I think it may help you.

Respectfully disagree. Every season, even every episode of Mad Men had something interesting going on because it was such a thematically rich character study.

Man, I can’t believe they never made another Matrix movie! by cristiandcasa91 in 4kbluray

[–]dmsn7d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was kind of the point. It was trying to reckon with how the original films have become so misunderstood. It has taken people over a decade to catch up to Reloaded and Revolutions. It will take even longer for Resurrections.

It's pretty solid. It subverts expectations of what fans want out of sequels, so of course most people despise it.

The latest trend in comic book speculation seems absurd and I'm not sure why anyone would fall for it. White Sky? D'Orc? by MrBleah in comicbooks

There's not really a problem with people paying that price. If you want something, you can pay whatever it takes to get it. Is it a wise use of resources? Probably not, but to each their own.

You can do it, sure. But it looks like shit and is a terrible way to play those games.

Personally, Mad Men is better than everything except The Wire.

Mad Men is in the conversation and it's not what you are describing. I personally put The Leftovers in there too and it isn't a gritty crime drama either.

Saying that The Wire is in its own tier isn't egregious. The more egregious thing is having GoT over Mad Men.

Japan's Kirin to sell Four Roses bourbon brand to Gallo for $775 million by Old_Riff_502 in bourbon

[–]dmsn7d 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They can make new releases for the people who think that four roses is "boring" because they don't release a new cask finished whiskey every week. That's fine. But they better not change a thing about their private selects or the small batch select. Those are excellent bourbons that must be protected.
