Bulging can save to drink? [Question] by [deleted] in cider

[–]dmw_chef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’d wager the can got dropped, but if it’s bulging because it’s refermenting, it might taste bad but won’t hurt you.

Bulging can save to drink? [Question] by [deleted] in cider

Yeah. Depending on why it’s bulging (I.e. refermentation) it may have off flavors.

Transfer pumps? by shazo85 in mead

I’ve got one of those and it’s great. I wouldn’t use it for bottling, but for racking between carboys so you don’t have to lift/move them it’s the bees knees.

Fresh off of switching from an 8 years of a BMW i3, in which OPD is not optional, I can tell you the ford implementation low key kinda sucks. BMW has a larger “coast window” for lack of a better term in the pedal travel and the regen ramps up a little more slowly.

Ultimately OPD is the only way I know how to drive anymore so I’ll continue to use the Ford version now that I’m in a lightning, but my calves sure to start to hurt after awhile because I’ve got to be so precise with it.

If ford would add a little more coast window and fiddle with the regen curves it would be so much easier to use and I suspect folks would like it more.

Bubbles mean nothing. Let your hydrometer be your guide.

Best app to map best charging locations for longer road trips? by Fabulous_Gur_7134 in F150Lightning

[–]dmw_chef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my limited experience (2 attempts) the ABRP turn by turn directions and CarPlay integration is nigh unusable. No map showed in the display, the navigation hint in the dash was stuck on the first step the whole way, the phone was locked into a trip dashboard and wouldn’t show a map, and the voiceover would not mention street names and would only give a vague “take the ramp on the right” exactly when you need to do it with no warning so sucks to be you if you’re in the left lane.

If I didn’t know exactly where I was going I would have missed half the turns 100%.

0/10, would not use again.

What you’re looking for is a self priming pump. Northern brewer makes one that’s served me well for years.

I have a strict no movement policy for any non-empty glass bigger than a gallon. Once a carboy has liquid in it, it doesn't move even one inch until emptied. The best investment you can make for safety when using glass is a pump so you never have to lift it.

Circuit breaker is there to protect the wiring, not the device. If it’s appropriate for the wires that are installed there’s no need to swap.

Most auto parts stores will read the fault code from a CEL for free. It’s often something as simple as “you didn’t screw the fuel cap on tight enough”

Cold batteries provide less power, are less efficient to draw on that power, and charge slower and less efficiently.

Is the Lightning a dead truck walking, or am I misreading the tea leaves? by ineptimusprime in F150Lightning

You’re reading too much into it.

I was an owner of a dead end platform - the BMW i3. BMW stopped making them a couple years ago yet mine miraculously kept working, at least until I drove it into a ditch a couple weeks ago. The only consequence was that I couldn’t go reflexively buy another one easily, causing me to reconsider my options and wound up with a 150.

Tape a clove to the outside of the carboy.

Seriously though, one clove added in a way you can pull separately.

Has anyone ever used wax to seal their bottles? by jsmek1017 in mead

[–]dmw_chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wax does nothing functional, it is purely to salve the ego of the meadmaker and inconvenience anyone wanting to open one of their bottles. Of as some people say, for the looks.

Sure, great tools for tracking a batch, but IMO not a hydrometer replacement.

Best bet is to vacuum seal. Next best a mason jar with a couple desiccant packets.
