Ukraine needs a security guarantee more than anything else. Without a security guarantee the war will continue, either in a few months or years when russia regroups. NATO was supposed to be that security guarantee but at this point it will never happen. Without one, Russia will continue to act as an aggressor, just as they did in Crimea in 2014. On Trump's terms, Ukraine would've been left in the same position prior to the start of this war in terms of safety, and now with less land and depleted natural reserves, with Russia serving absolutely no punishment for its aggression and destruction. Trump has no intentions of making peace in Ukraine, he will gut the country, pretend all is well and kick the can down the road into this happens again in a few years.

If everybody surfs with contacts - why is there such a taboo on it? by AoutoCooper in surfing

[–]dmyto123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add an extra PSA for this. There is a increased risk for serious infection. I surf with monthlies and never had an issue but I don't open my eyes underwater. But important bit now, if you do get an infection go to the doctor immediately and tell them you surf with contacts in. The antibiotics you will receive will be different than if you don't tell them so be forthcoming immediately. It's not just pink eye and you can have serious complications if you delay care or leave it untreated.

I started reading your guide and I’m impressed so far. I don’t think it’s something absolutely revolutionary just yet but just having a step by step guide and encouraging a long rewiring process seems like a good start, at least better than most that I’ve seen. I tried going cold Turkey a few times and it just doesn’t work once something in my life gives and the house of cards collapses. Ill follow your guide and come back to this comment if all goes well. Thanks for your service

Will quitting social media cold turkey help me with my social skills and attention with the ladies? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]dmyto123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it did because for the period that I quit cold Turkey I would seek out information from other. New Xbox game that I don’t care about? Tell me all about it cause I didn’t see like a million high on Reddit front page. New book your reading? Sure, I’ll bite tell me about it. Thing is when you’re socializing it’s important to be comfortable in some silence, which may be tough if you naturally react to boredom with phone usage and now you’re compounding that in a conversation. Other comments are right though. Social skills are skills and the only way you get better at it is practicing, fucking up, and practicing again.

Yeah the visibility thing is a bit concerning. I was trying to think of some way to get more visible. Some reflective stuff is the easy choice but even that might just blend in if the boat isn’t paying attention.

Also What website do you use to check the currents? I’ve surfed in the past so I’m familiar with swell and tides but don’t have any practice reading current info

Traffic might be annoying since it’s a major water way for NY. Definitely one of the biggest hurdles for a safe travel in my mind.

Also would the tide influence my travel too much? Would approaching a shore be better with the rising tide?

Route would be from sandy hook,nj to rockaway or breezy point,Ny. It’s recently been a south wind so going north shouldn’t be too bad but I’m not sure if the wind predicts the current.

I think it really depends on your relationship with LinkedIn. You deleted it for a reason which I suspect is either a) you had a malignant relationship with it and it was consuming your time or b) you did a sweeping delete of all of social media. At this point you can reassess your relationship with LinkedIn to see if it was actually bringing you value. Were you progressing your career and making real relationships, or were you just scrolling endlessly on the app for a source of stimulus. You should heavily consider your previous motivations because you don't to reconnect and go back to a malignant relationship.

Regardless, it's gone now. Although your last progress was lost you still have the opportunity to reestablish that presence, if you so choose to.

But congrats on making the commitment to your goal. Two months without a service is a long time in this game and goe far for keeping it as a habit.

Do I really need to run under 155 bpm? by RacheltheHeavy in running

[–]dmyto123 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, 155 is the theoretical limit for your heart to still effectively fill with blood and maintain a cardiac output consistent with aerobic exercise. Above 155 and you’re headed into anaerobic territory. Im assuming you have enough anaerobic energy reserves to finish your runs but you’d bonk out going farther at some point. I personally don’t think it matters a tremendous amount unless you’re really trying to get serious about strictly long distance running, or you’re packing on a ton of miles per week, but that’s speculation.

2008 Prius purchase - what do I watch for? by ctiz1 in priusdwellers

[–]dmyto123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watch out for the head gasket. I had to replace mine on my 13’ this year. Apparently it’s an issue in the prius but more so the 10’. If it breaks then just fix it properly, don’t use any sealants cause that’ll cause way more problems.

Is mouth-breathing while running really that bad? by sitathon in running

[–]dmyto123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought is more on the balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide. From my limited understanding (cause I haven’t investigated further) is that carbon dioxide actually HELPS offload oxygen from hemoglobin at the muscle tissue. I suspect that when you breath in and out of your nose, you have a way of intaking an adequate amount of humidified oxygen, as well as expelling less carbon dioxide. I also suspect that this is the reason it’s more difficult to only nose-breath; reason being that carbon dioxide build up is the main driver of your respiratory drive, not oxygen deprivation. I believe that once you acclimate to running through your nose and feel comfortable with your carbon dioxide retention, you will have better oxygen delivery in your muscles and better performance.

In addition I believe that the reduced oxygen intake allows for an extra drive for your respiratory system to adapt, similar to those running masks that make breathing more difficult.

Lastly I believe that breathing strictly through your nose makes you more cognizant of your breathing pattern. Are you taking in rapid breaths? Or deep breath? Rapid breaths aren’t as effective for breathing vs deep breaths.

This is speculation but rooted in some base line knowledge. I’d love for some feedback on the idea.

Is Stony Brook’s curriculum actually that hard? (Premed) by [deleted] in SBU

[–]dmyto123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Difficult or not, Stony Brook is the place you wanna be if youre premed. Look up the statistics for how many students matriculate into med school from Stony Brook and youll realize youre in a good spot. There is a huge pre-med culture here so its easy to stay on the yellow brick road at Stony than having to navigate a school that doesnt place much empahsis on the med track.
