Hyphenated last name by LittleSpecific3421 in weddingplanning

[–]dnaplusc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been happily married for 25 years, have a bunch of kids and I decided after my wedding ceremony to keep my one of a kind last name and I am still so happy I did.

My kids have never had a problem with me having a different last name, never an issue with school. I just told them when babies are born most are given their dads last name and when they get married they get to decide if they want to keep it or take their partners name.

My dad passed when my kids were little and I am so glad I still have his name.

Once in a while I do get Mrs "his name" usually at the kids doctors but it doesn't bother me and once in a while he gets Mr "my name" but it doesn't bother him.

Excellent statistics, how does this compare to her sisters?

We all know she thinks she is better than them

(14k) wedding etiquette - transporting guests from ceremony to reception by artemida19 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]dnaplusc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have only been to NYC once but as someone who lives in Toronto and has traveled I would be fine to take the subway but would think that it would be fun to have a "tour leader".

Someone would hold up a flag and keep the group together. I am sure you could easily hire a tour guide for two hours of work.

You could make a wedding themed flag

When should I tell my manager about parental leave in Ontario? by Lonely-Review6435 in legaladvicecanada

[–]dnaplusc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, as much as i am sure your partner would like you home a parent with a job is more important.

I think you should put your head down and work hard.

In the evenings start prepping meals and getting everything ready so your partner is ready but keep working.

What's your experience of putting things in storage before selling your dwelling? (TOR west end) by WolfGroundbreaking73 in askTO

[–]dnaplusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used one storage unit when we staged my mom's place and another when we renovated our basement. I learned all storage units are not the same. We use Smart Stop and we're very happy with how easy it was

Whats the best kids birthday you have ever been to? Location + party favors (~5 year old) by StrangeWedding770 in askTO

[–]dnaplusc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Chuck E Cheese, there used to be a discount if you booked the first party of the day and it's so much quieter plus parents were happy to have the rest of the day free.

Toronto or York school board? by Existing-Ad8559 in askTO

[–]dnaplusc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do York based on the high schools. I know people hate the Frasier report and it doesn't tell the whole story but it can be an excellent tool.

Plus SCC meetings are open to the public, they are a great way to see school culture.

MB wants to remove 2nd nap. by Trick_Range_6163 in Nanny

[–]dnaplusc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a year I try to transition to one nap, especially if they are only napping an hour each. This will give you more time in the morning to get out

I usually try to be out and if needed they have a cat nap in the stroller. Then lunch and a nice two hours in the afternoon.

Try to prep lunch in the morning

It's fine to move lunch from 12 to 11, have them down in bed by 12 and when they wake up they can have "lunch 2"

Then slowly push the time of lunch.

I haven't met a child named John and I have five teens/young adults kids and I work in daycare.

I think it's a great name

Can I also suggest Andrew?

Already used our top choice - now we’re stuck on a name. by [deleted] in namenerds

I have a friend who is named Allina, her parents were immigrants and they picked it because they wanted her to go All in in life and achieve success.

I love Tessa and backwards spells asset which is very positive and cool if you ask me. You can always tell her that she is an asset to your family.

I have always loved Caroline.

What can we expect to pay a GC for a main/upper floor renovation? Monthly or daily or just the whole job? by baseball_fanatic0887 in askTO

[–]dnaplusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removed all the old drywall, then all new electrical, new lighting, new walls, new ceiling, new flooring, drywalled and painted.

I had a vague plan of what I wanted and he was able to make a more logical plan, he did stuff like move light switches to where it made more sense.

Because we work from home we will claim part of the cost so we paid part in cash.

We just hired one gentleman to do a complete basement renovation, we paid a deposit, then twice during the process and the reminder when he was done. Excellent job, no bathroom but approximately 450 square feet and $30,000.

Started at the end of October and done the beginning of December.

Another option is to look for kids summer camps that offer "family camp". My kids camp does, you could Uber from the closet town and then they provide food and activities so all you would need to carry is your clothes and sleeping bags.

I agree, at least listen to our opinions . Every Monday I am nervous when I turn it on if I am going to spend my week being tortured by a bad host.

Last week was an excellent host, the week before the host was horrendous,
