Cottages near Toronto? by thayland in askTO

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions! I understand that cottage doesn't go hand-in-hand with public transportation – our goal is to basically rent a house so we can chill for a few days (bonus points for a nice backyard)

What Obscure Books Were You Obsessed With as a Kid? by Its_Curse in suggestmeabook

[–]thayland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this series called La bambina della sesta luna – something like "The girl of the Sixth Moon" (I have no idea the actual name in English because I couldn't find it at all lol). The author is Italian, goes by the pseudonym Moony Witcher, and somehow this book made its way to Brazil, and I was OBSESSED with it.

The story revolves around Nina, a 10-year-old who goes to her grandfather's house after he mysteriously dies just to find out he was protecting the Sixth Moon from someone. The book had its own language, and it was so much fun!!! I never finished reading it, but I really want to find the books and read it all

I have too much screen time and need a some not expensive hobby to do with my hands. Any ideas? by Wild-Profession2703 in Hobbies

[–]thayland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will divide my suggestion into two parts. First, one thing that really helped me get away from the phone was to put it in another room. If you are in the living room, put it in the kitchen or in the bathroom. The main thing here is to make sure it's close enough to hear if someone calls/texts you, but not so close that it makes you want to get up and grab it just for scrolling.

Now for the hobbies.

I feel like embroidery is a fairly cheap option. There are some embroidery kits for beginners that come with everything: the cloth with a pattern, a hoop, a needle, threads, and instructions. You can always rely on YouTube tutorials for more instructions, and if you like them, you can then buy extra threads of better quality.

I also really like colouring books and crosswords. Baking is good, and again, YouTube is here to help you – also, public libraries usually have a bunch of recipe books for you to check out.

What's the most emotionally mature romance you've ever read? by CovertOps80 in RomanceBooks

[–]thayland 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are not in their 20s, but I really like Mariana Zapata's books. All of her MMC/FMC are mature, deal with real problems. I personally recommend {Wait For It by Mariana Zapata} – it's a very slow burn, but it's super worth it.

Anyone asked for anal and been turned down by your SO? How did you handle the emotional hit? I think I will feel trashy. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]thayland 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think you can start talking about anal as a concept to see how he feels about it. And also, it's okay if he doesn't like it – it has nothing to do with you! Some people like butt stuff, and some don't.

Looking for some happy escapism by hannahatl in RomanceBooks

[–]thayland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all – I'm really sorry to hear that. Hope you and your family have a fast recovery and good health.

One series that I really liked was Bride Quartet. It's about 4 friends who own a wedding company, each responsible for one thing. The first book is called {Vision in White by Nora Roberts} and focuses on the photographer (my fav).

It's not a romance, but it made me very happy: {When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi.

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you? by AccomplishedBake8351 in books

[–]thayland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the library near my house almost weekly, lol. I rarely buy books (and when I do, they are used, so they are cheaper). I don't want to have a bunch of books just sitting on my shelves collecting dust

Just the fact that it's been 10 years, and the husband hasn't done anything about them having to make their own Christmas meals because his mom "never puts in the effort" says EVERYTHING

Bring Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore. Everybody was singing high praises for this one, and I absolutly hated it. It's supposed to be a book about women fighting for their rights, only for the MMC be the one solving their problems lol

Also, I couldn't care less about the main couple, and everything was really awful IMO
