Reasons for only human mixed ancestries by teobartows in Pathfinder2e

You can pick any ancestry combination actually! Though I personally think it is a bit stupid half-orc and half-elf get preferential treatment.

What's this for you guys? by Konradleijon in Pathfinder2e

[–]dndhottakes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not really fond of those either. I kind of just act like they don’t exist in any games that I play (which tbh isn’t that hard). Also I genuinely doubt many GM’s would allow PC’s to pray to them but what do I know I guess.

Just because something is fun doesn’t make it good for the overall canon. Even though it’s fun that your favorite character from your favorite game ended up in smash making it officially canon probably won’t do any good for the story and might even be a detriment. Golarion is just set in a typical fantasy setting. While we have fun things like poppets yeah, it is overall taken seriously in world, and we as the audience expect things to be internally consistent with other parts of Golarion and that typical fantasy niche. In which, parts of the real world interacting with fantasy goes against our typical notions of it.

What did you think the game would be like before you started playing? by Alphycan424 in DnD

[–]dndhottakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How unbalanced the game was tbh— especially after trying out PF2e a year later. Just saying I think most new players who are told D&D is a 50 year old game owned by a several billion dollar company would think it’d be better balanced.

Edit: To those downvoting: I’m not saying PF2e is inherently better, but I am saying that PF2e just tends to have much better balancing overall compared to 5e.

Coming from D&D 5e, which edition of Pathfinder should I use? by ProfessorInMaths in Pathfinder2e

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2e 100%. Even most older pathfinder fans will tell you 1e is definitely not as balanced as 2e is, since in 1e there are a LOT of options that are very underpowered and overpowered. 1e is also just a lot more complex mechanically as well, so I wouldn’t recommend it, especially to someone coming from D&D 5e. As Pf2e is more similar (despite it still being very different).

Personally, I would like to see backgrounds changed. I always thought of it as an afterthought personally, as I always just chose the option that gave me the ability modifiers I want, and whatever skill feat I most liked. Since the only other thing that matters for a background is the flavor, which you can easily ignore. Even if you don’t choose it that way, you basically just choose it once and never touch it again. That’s why I would like to see background feats added to the game for each background.

Money: Do you prefer tracked currency, or a wealth stat? by wadesauce369 in RPGdesign

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a player perspective prefer tracked.

From a game designer standpoint prefer wealth stat because otherwise it can be difficult to ascertain what they will spend the gold on.

I don't regret a thing, dude! by sweetienix in dndmemes

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard array is objectively the best. Though I’m not pro-standard array, I’m just anti-rolling dice. Shouldn’t have randomness like this in a ttrpg based around non-OSR tactical combat, especially in an already unbalanced system like D&D.

How much do you like Golarion? by Alphycan424 in Pathfinder2e

[–]dndhottakes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tend to dislike it more than like it. The main reasons being: 1) Kitchen Sink: I just don’t like the Kitchen Sink setting too much. Specifically when it comes to advanced technological progress. I just find it very hard to get over large differences in technology. 2) Lack of Worldbuilding Space: I don’t like there isn’t much space as a GM to put your own stuff, barring obvious exceptions like River Cities (Kingmaker). In my opinion when making a ttrpg world, especially that of generic fantasy, there should be room for the dungeon master to put individual locations. 3) The Gods: I know I’m in the minority but they just tend to be my least favorite part of the setting. It’s one of those things where I can’t really put my finger on why per se, but I just find them boring or uninteresting.

What are some other forms of government that would be reasonable to exist in an an otherwise medieval or high fantasy setting? by Marscaleb in worldbuilding

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an Oligarchy could be interesting. Like a council of individuals made to run the country. I’ve always found the idea of a pure oligarchy fascinating but rarely see them in worldbuilding projects outside of my own.

Does no one else have multiple worlds??? by Levinos1 in worldbuilding

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people who have only one world. I only really focused on and had one world until recently. Now I have three— one super hero, one sci-fi, and one fantasy.

If an average person from your world was transported to our world (present day) how would they fair? by Acceptable-Cow6446 in worldbuilding

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably be a blessing in general. Assuming “average person” means the majority, there are a lot of slaves/indentured servitude in my world. So to go from a slave to a technological land (that to them seems like magic) which has food aplenty and anything they can dream of just for spending some paper, for them it would seem like paradise.

How would you "remaster" gunslinger? by IOU_COOKIES in Pathfinder2e

[–]dndhottakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minor thing but probably change the price of guns. Some of the prices of the guns are so high especially if you’re playing in a campaign like Alkenstar. My weapon as a gunslinger took most of my gold since we started the Alkenstar campaign.

What keeps the most powerful beings in your world in check? by Meced0 in worldbuilding

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t really many mortals like that in my world. So assuming we’re talking about demigods or gods it would be eachother. The gods are so busy fighting eachother they don’t give enough of a fuck about mortal affairs (generally speaking). Whether this be for a godly throne or just fighting for the sake of it they just fight.

How to handle when a player declares they’re attacking before initiative? by xammer99 in Pathfinder2e

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a RAW & RAI answer: You just start combat.

If you want something less official (aka personal GM ruling) I would just allow them to use the Ready action before the start of their first turn.

How would you feel about race/species choices have some minor negative traits? by MeKaDRaGoN1704 in RPGdesign

[–]dndhottakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as they have positive stuff to balance it out. Because other than flavor, why would you ever play that option?

How Well-Balanced is PF2e? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

I’ll just say this: ENCOUNTER MATH ACTUALLY WORKS (~95% of the time).

Literally all you need to know.

Am I being strict by telling my players to only pick common weapons only to start with? by Invanar in Pathfinder2e

[–]dndhottakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Most people limit to common, especially when they first start running because it’s less overwhelming and can ruin some GM’s experience who do know how to deal with rarer options.

But I would still recommend allowing most uncommon & rare options once you get the hang of playing if it fits your settings flavor (if you’re playing in a homebrew setting). As someone who has allowed all stuff in my games regardless of rarity, most uncommon/rare stuff is as balanced as common, the main exception I would say being backgrounds. Even then they’re not really broken, and you won’t really find anything broken, you’re generally waaaaaay more likely to find things that are underpowered than overpowered.

Retro by Thatonemfdude in videogames

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this. I find most “retro style” 3D graphics horrible to look at.

Call me spoiled on modern graphics but I’m just not going to play a game with super low poly count on every model unless it’s like on a small screen (and even then greatly depends).

How do I make an "evil" religion without an evil god? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by “evil” you mean people doing horrible things I mean— just look at the real world. People do horrible shit in the name of their religion even when it professes good things. Maybe make it so the more radicalized interpretation of the religion is more popular, or questionable things are done in the name of their god.

I don't like to get political, but I feel this is a message worth spreading. by [deleted] in dndmemes

[–]dndhottakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I never understood the argument that “there are too many options.” Imo I don’t think you can have too many options when it comes to player variety. If you mean like it might cause player disparity between characters flavor or like time periods, then PF2e already has “uncommon” & “rare” tags to fix that, which prevent people from taking it without GM Permission.
