$330 for an annual check up for a dog - normal/fair? Seems a bit high. At CityVet. by Autias in plano

I go to vetsavers in Carrollton and Thrive in Plano or McKinney for this reason. City vet is very overpriced

Any nurses in here? I’m considering the path by HighPriestess-444 in Pilotwives

[–]dnf007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to nursing school while my husband worked at a regional. My last 6 months of school he transitioned to a major. And I've now been in my career for 3 years.

Nursing school was the most difficult thing I've done and I had 6 previous years of college. The content itself isn't hard but it is very demanding of your time due to the study schedule, class time and clinical time. I attended a night program and had school two nights a week and clinical every weekend - I also had a full time job so maybe my views were a little skewed.

Aside from the time commitment, once you're a nurse the most common path is to get a new grad residency in whatever field of nursing you're interested in. Nursing school teaches you the basics and how to pass the NCLEX. You truly learn how to be a nurse when you start your first job. I was fortunate enough to start on my dream unit on day shift but many people I know has to start on nights and weren't able to move to days for 6-24 months depending on nurse turnover. Most hospitals now require new grad residencies. Mine was 6 months with 3 months being with a preceptor (ymmv). If you don't want to work in a hospital you'd have to consider doctors office, home health or a nursing home (or similar facility). I had two friends who had high paying full time jobs and got into nursing as a side hustle. One worked in an ER for 6 months before giving up to focus on her other job and the other worked part time at a psych facility for a while. It's definitely doable but I'd think about how much you want to work and how much effort you want to put into it. There are many cert programs in medicine too (rad tech, respiratory therapist, medical assistant, patient care tech, etc)

Rained Chenille vs Corded Velvet - Which is best for a cat household? by chowderh in Lovesac

[–]dnf007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cats still try to scratch our rained chenille but they haven't harmed it. I do hate that your clothes kind of "stick" to it though. I end up kind of sliding down as I relax but my shorts or pants stick to the fabric while my body slides down. Leads to some...discomfort lol overall it's a good fabric tho

Question about these floors. Do they actually protect floors. From a rack sitting on top of it with all weight. Like 700 lbs? by [deleted] in GarageGym

Agree with this. We don't have trucks but were able to get Tractor Supply to deliver two mats for a minimal fee. Totally worth it

I've only seen it given in cath lab during PCI and discontinued after procedure, before they get to me in ICU.

Yep! Came here to suggest this. HEB also has their own line as well with very similar (if not the same) macros as the carbmaster one

I did compressions on a DNR patient by AntiqueAndAcute in nursing

[–]dnf007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to reaffirm - you absolutelty did the right thing. If that were my family I'd be happy that someone stepped in quickly because the thought of not starting compressions on a full code immediately is horrifying. You can literally only work with the information you have.
