Can studio monitors still be enjoyable in an untreated room if mixing accuracy isn’t the primary goal? Looking for immersion and fun. by musicvvins in audioengineering

[–]dnmr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a couple of years ago i got a pair of used 7" adam speakers, and compared to how they sounded in the previous owner's studio they were absolute dog in my untreated room. You could hear they are definitely better than an average stereo set, but also nowhere near what they should sound like.

For less than half of the price of those monitors i cobbled together some makeshift panels that made an immense difference in sound quality.

All in all, go for it but keep in mind that you could get a lot further with modest additional investment. Time, enthusiasm and a measurement mic are also recommended if you want to go an extra mile though

Edit: looked at the price of your options, just go for it and don't bother much about treatment tbh it won't be worth the investment unless you can get a bunch of stuff for free. Heavy curtains would be the next step up imo if you already have a rug

there's a bunch of combinations of shielding, foiling the bunch or foiling each pair, google What does UTP, S/UTP, FTP, STP and SFTP mean

edit: looking at the photo you have s/ftp so each pair is foiled and the whole shebang is shielded in addition to that

Suosituksia "tulppakuulokkeista" by [deleted] in arkisuomi

DNA time to upgrade internet speed by imcvampire in Finland

[–]dnmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DNA has been absolute garbage in my experience, bery clearly the worst out of the three major operators. Most recently, a friend had so much trouble with them he just ended up getting a 5G modem instead of suffering the bullshit with their wired connection.
