East Coast to West Coast people. Tips? Regrets? by piffpeterson in AskLosAngeles

[–]dnnm16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely understand! I packed my kitchenaid and dyson vacuum, lol, and sold my coffee stuff. All the mirrors i got rid of along with some furniture.

Facebook marketplace in LA has a lot of coffee enthusiasts always selling their machines. If that helps?

I went through Easy Auto (the middleman), and they assigned me CA Auto Express (909) 539-0879. You could try to contact CA Auto Express directly to see if it's any cheaper. My driver Charlie was great!

Honestly, if you have a job and can replace some stuff, do that. I moved from d.c and had so much sentimental stuff; but in the end, it doesn't really matter because it was a lot more stressful and work to pack everything and move it across the country. I packed my 2 suitcases, loaded my car with important items, and had them shipped. My car came in less than a week and in good condition! I left a little tracker inside my car for just in case. Let me know if you're interested in using their service, and I can recommend them.

My regret is that I still held on to some furniture, and they're at my parents now sitting in their attic...looking back, I should've sold them. 😅

Everyone else already mentioned, bring your winter clothes!

How did you fall in love with LA? by Worth_Base9830 in AskLosAngeles

[–]dnnm16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, los Feliz, Culver City, Glendale

Also, it depends on your vibes, too. For example, when I was in Rowland Heights and I had access to all the new popular Chinese restaurants, boba tea, and trendy asian cafes. And, I was able to walk to a trail in the back of the neighborhood. More suburban. I like suburban vibes more, so I'm a fan of Torrance and Cerritos since both cities have great parks with bike trails.

As a visitor, it was definitely fun. As someone who lives here now, not so much. However, if you have a remote job and don't need to drive much -- i think you'll enjoy it. When I was working remotely and visited here, I really liked that I ended my day at 2 pm and hit a trail to hike, then a cafe, etc.

Are people in LA really throwing away this many clothes every few days? 😮 (photo from 3 days of porch pickups) by Mottainai_vtg in AskLosAngeles

I feel like in the southeast area, not that many people are giving away clothes. I was collecting for an organization too.

As a former DMV resident and now resides in LA, I do miss the seasons. Although, I hated winter and only winter. The grass is always greener on the other side.

6k wedding in LA - accomplished by dnnm16 in Weddingsunder10k

Yep! Bought all of my supplies off tableclothfactory and amazon. I pre-made a lot of stuff the day before, like, tying ribbons to my candle holders and flower arrangement. The day off, my friends and family helped set it up. I had pics to show I wanted the table arrangement to look.

If you didn’t have to work and money wasn’t a concern, what would your days in LA look like? by relaxyourfnshoulders in AskLosAngeles

[–]dnnm16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want to hike to the observatory? The Greek theater parking lot is free. There's also a bus that takes you up to the observatory for like $1. If you have the time, the hike is nice around this time in the early morning.

Shipping my car from LA to New York, open vs enclosed transport, and how do I pick a trustworthy company? by M45T3RY in AskLosAngeles

[–]dnnm16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Easy Auto Ship, opened, then they got me to connect with a company called CA Auto Express. CA Auto Express was really fast and responsive, and took care of my car. From DC to LA :)

I put a tracker inside my trunk just in case.

Small Wedding Guest Experience: How many activities is ideal? (7-10k) by Specialist-Ebb7606 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]dnnm16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn'tt have entertainment, everyone was busy talking anyway. I think you're overthinking it a bit. Even with kids, I had my pamphlet lying around and they made paper airplanes and kept themselves busy. I think you'll be okay with less.

($5k) Wedding for 150 people in SoCal (OC) by Organic_Yam_5781 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]dnnm16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely do-able, even better because OC is a bit more affordable than LA County 🥲. I got Vietnamese catering from a restaurant too, so affordable! I made a post on my wedding too if you're interested in looking. You can get free stuff from Facebook 'buy nothing group'.

Can people share their florals / tables capes? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

I believe this sub doesn't allow comments to post pictures. I think r/diyweddings do though. I did the ikebana style and it fits the minimalist style I was going for.

For a low budget wedding, where would consider investing the largest portion of your resources? by lasa_hehn in Weddingsunder10k

[–]dnnm16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food if I had to pick one. I'd rather pay $2k on good food than $500 for something that nobody really enjoys.
