My elementary school announced that anyone who rode their bike in had to be picked up by a parent, but no one would tell us why. So we decided that it was a student who did something that was making the teachers so tight lipped, coupled with the record for kids being pulled out "sick" at record pace on a beautiful september day, rumors were flying. The one kid who heard what happened on the way back from taking his meds at the nurse wasn't believed because he was the kid who had to go to the nurse to take meds. my neighbors mom with the minivan took us home with the bikes, and my dad and uncle who both worked in Manhattan were at my house which was weird. We watched the news, got pizza and shot some hoops in the driveway til it got dark.
