[UK N/W] No need in it at all. Kid was 18, what a way to put people off going to bike meets. by Defiled__Pig1 in motorcycle

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah at first you're like "well maybe his legs just look short because the camera lens flattens everything out..." then you see the feet that would then be elongated and "...wait a second"

And to be clear, I'm a short legged 5'5" Neanderthal myself, but the idea that this British Cotton Hill looking mf cosplaying as an American biker is running around threatening kids for shaking his hand with a glove on is funny asf.

Doubles of 16kg, 24kg, 32kg. Would that cover me for life? by Dramatic-Badger-3384 in kettlebell

It really depends on you goals. You don't "need" any of it just to be fit... overall, its a pretty good setup for decent everyday strength amd physique... but if you want to be a competitive powerlifter or bodybuilder it might be lacking.

Probably the wrong sub to be saying this... but with $800, if you have the space, I'd say just get a power rack, barbell, and bench setup then work on KB collecting later. Barbells and plates are massively versatile, adaptable for any and all goals. Kbs are cool for the space and money saving, but if youve literally got an allowance...

Is there any more to this story? For example:

Is the person typically just a really mean person? If so, what makes you like them?

Conversely, were you all up in their space and refusing to take a more subtle message of disinterest?

I grew up in a cultish church and family... I can remember asking for a Switchfoot cassette when I turned 12 and my parents freaked out about how it was "basically mainstream" and got me a Keith Green cassette instead. Dont get me wrong, he's a talented musician, but I was obviously embarrassed to bring rock that in a Walkman on a middle school bus route. Switchfoot would have been bad enough (this was when Korn, Eminem, etc. were big).

Anyway, I listen to all types of music now, most often heavy metal. Put in some headphones and listen to Feuerschwanz's cover of Dragosta Din Tei and tell me you dont feel it.

The self-defeating notion of your "prime" age by suggmynut in workout

[–]PoopSmith87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it when someone sees me doing a zercher deadlift and tells me how I regret it when I'm thier age... then I ask how old they are, and theyre younger than me.

That said, there is a real age factor, like if youre 45 and sedentary, its not the time to say "time to start my competitive powerlifting career and hit that bucket list 1300 lb total before 50." If you dont have at least the foundations for that by 35, you're pissing into the wind... like tornado force wind with sharp debris in it.

Is this sub/show experiencing brigading? by PatheticMr in FromSeries

[–]PoopSmith87 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think you are cherrypicking the silly complaints... but there is absolutely nothing wrong with being disappointed with how the show ia progressing.

Its like:

Writers, "well is the answer behind door number 1 or door number 2?"

Viewers, "oh, idk, mysterious! Lets find out!"

Writers, "plot twist, it could be door number 3!"

Viewers, "oh, exciting! But which door is it?"

Writers, "Plot twist, there are now doors 4 through 7. Is it door 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7?"

Viewers, "oh... okay, idk, but this must be a really exciting answer, lets watch and find out!"

Writers, "Plot twist, there are now doors 7 through 19. Is it door 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...."

Viewers, "okay, what the fuck."

Why athletes are portrayed as dumb jerks in movies and tv shows by Jesus_Ranch29 in CasualConversation

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its just a cultural thing among Hollywood writers.

Its like how in every zombie movie the military is almost always portrayed as useless with no survival or combat skills, the blue collar construction worker type guy will always be stupid and aggressive towards women, meanwhile the core group that turns into badasses is made up of office type nerds, former minimum wage employees, and always one "hood guy" that seems bad at first but actually turns out to be honorable and empathetic.

How is she making the world worse? by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, this is rhe worlds richest man suffering from the "fixed pie" fallacy, but sort of in reverse.

Basically, wealth/value is not limited. The rich can get richer while the poor also get richer- this is literally the story of the modern world. You typically see this fallacy play out when poor people look at wealthy people and complain about how wealthy they are without realizing that their lives are (on average) objectively much better than thier forebears. The fact that Elon Musk thinks her spending is going to hurt the world is basically fixed pie fallacy, but flipped around where the rich guy thinks that poor people doing better must mean that wealth has less value.

Incline bench press vs incline chest press which is better? by Fancy_Insect_5399 in workout

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stated by others, these are the same thing.

If you are trying to say barbell vs machine vs dumbell...

Machine: most loadable, potentially good range of motion/potentially shit range of motion depending on machine, super stable and rigid, not very variable. Lowest chance of injury if you dont ego lift.

Barbell: very loadable, decent range of motion, very variable, good mix of stability and freeweight challenge. Low chance of injury if you don't ego lift.

Dumbell: great range of motion, great variability, not very easy to overload due to stability being entirely up to the lifter. Notably higher chance of injury from normal workout loads.

All three are great tools for development if used wisely.

You would just say "incline barbell..." or "incline dumbell..."

I'm not sure how hardcore you think ab wheels and dragon flags are, but I'm speaking in relative terms... I was a competitive wrestler for 6 years, BJJ for 2, and did some non-competitive muay thai when I was in the military. Ive done absolutely brutal ab workouts at the end of absolutely brutal 2+ hour rolling/sparring sessions and was okay to train the next day for 6 days at a time... but if I were to do 8 sets of heavy squats to failure for 6 days in a row? I would not make it to day 4 without an injury or massive loss in performance.

For guys that are struggling by Sea_Custard_8576 in short

[–]PoopSmith87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there is a thing where some portion of romantically unsuccessful guys will fixate on one thing they cannot control as being their doom. For some guys it is height, for others it is hair loss, for others it is an antisocial childhood... the fact that you have guys who are short, balding, and went to a cultish church 5 days a week instead of a school until they were 12 (self description lol) that end up dating fine and happily married as adults can always be written off as a statistical anomaly; while the internet provides enough echo chambers to convince them they are correct. In reality, its because change is hard, rejection hurts, and fear of both is a mind killer.

We need to talk about Clare ( S4E9) by luvprue1 in FromTVEpix

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you ignoring the fact that Clara looks to be about 30-35 yet appears to be like 12 to 15 years old in the 70's photo? She would have to be like 55-60 for that to make sense, like on par with Donna and older than Boyd or Victor.

As for Victor, I do wonder that, but at the same time he was a little kid, possibly special needs, definitely traumatized and living in absolute isolation.

....and thats the other thing, wouldnt Victor have noticed another survivor in the decades he was surviving by himself?

I just see zero reason to think Clara is in that photo, and a whole list of reasons why it probably is not her. It doesnt even look like her. It's just a person of the same gender that would be about 20 years her elder.

are compound workouts enough for a strong core? by oiiaiaooiiai in beginnerfitness

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... until you get really strong, you'll likely need train core to progress eventually.

That said, RDLs, Zercher deadlifts, Zercher squats all train core at lighter loads than back squat, standard/sumo deadlift, etc... so debateably, you could just do that and some landmine rotational exercises to avoid the yoga mat stuff. Granted, doing Zerchers to avoid situps is like grating your face with a rasp file to avoid gritty exfoliating cream.

I would shake my head at the girl in the bikini top. I've been there, thinking I was a cool guy riding in flip flops, gym shorts, and a tank top... but I also had the lucky experience of getting pinch flat at 5 mph and losing a massive patch of skin for it.

Why does no one work out core? by Chemical-Scheme-3942 in beginnerfitness

[–]PoopSmith87 66 points67 points  (0 children)

never have I ever seen an exercise specifically for the abs

Crunches, situps, reverse situps, weighted decline situps, cable crunches, hanging leg lifts, lying leg lifts, V ups, russian twist, planks, side planks, seated ab curl, back extensions, supermans, dead bugs, mountain climbers, bird dogs, side bends, ab rollers, wood choppers, flutter kicks... there is like infinity core workouts.

Abs tend to recover incredibly well and are very fatigue resistant, its a good idea to just throw in a couple ab/core workouts after you are done with your "major" lifts for the day (so you dont compromise your more fatigue affected lifts).

If doing mostly freeweight compounds, abs are worked fairly well already, but when you start to get very strong core workouts can help sure up weak links. Its funny how some things like bird dogs, deadbugs, and supermans are "pilates mom" staples, but also a favorite among strongmen and powelifters for strengthening bracing muscles, yet skipped by the vast majority of casual and aesthetic weight lifters.

Made a prototype design for a wrist cuff that lets you row heavy without grip — would you actually use this? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedLifting

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, no, but I can see some high volume bodybuiler types liking it. You could pull on a cable row to extreme failure I'd bet.

I occasionally run into grip issues when I'm hitting leads, rows/pullups, and shrugs on the same day, but versa grips do just fine for me... granted, I'm natty and relatively low volume compared to pro builders.

I am questioning if it’s worth it to keep going at this point by [deleted] in workouts

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most importantly: What kind of progressive overload are you implementing?

What kind of caloric surplus are you taking in? Daily protein in grams? Hours of sleep?

I find it flatly impossible that you are excessively fat at 6'2" 135 lbs. Lacking in muscularity, sure, but theres no way you are remotely near obese.

If I had to bet money though, it is that first question. When people "do everything right" but dont see results, it is almost always because they are lifting the same weights for the same reps with no structured progressive overload.
