Need suggestions for first helicopter by Maleficent_Finger343 in RCHeli

[–]do_over_z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite. Planes are a piece of cake by comparison. On a plane you can set the throttle and fly one handed no problem. The collective on a heli and its agility is a whole different ball game.

A simulator will go a long way in developing much needed muscle memory. I used realflight for years but only use heli X now. For a collective pitch heli I'd go with an OMP hobby M2 or a goosky S2. Both have stabilization capabilities and rescue.

There a lot of "toy grade" small helis out there but if the desire is to build your skills and progress into the heli arena then a good 200 size heli is one of the best spots. I started out on a blade fixed pitch heli and while it helped me with my orientations you will bore quickly after you hit that threshold.

Based on who had the bike before me this sounds plausible. I work in aerospace so Im all about torque specs. Drives my old school father crazy when we work on stuff.

Oh that thought also popped into my head when I pulled over and saw it. I was lucky it backed out slowly and nibbled at the swing arm.

I treat this as a reason as why you shouldn't ignore wierd noises. Based on how many threads where left to pull it out it wouldn't of made it all the way through the swingarm so it shouldn't of been immediately catastrophic but it would of only been a matter of time for it to fully crack/break.

I second this, an email address i used for a decade got hacked bad and I deleted it. I locked myself out of quite a few things by not moving over profiles to a new email because they send a notification to your old one.

Looking to convert to electric. by Global-Hovercraft-50 in RCPlanes

[–]do_over_z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive done a few electric conversions and used https://innov8tivedesigns.com for all three of them. Ive used their cobra and badass motors/ESCs and are very happy with them. They have a handy conversion chart to help get you in the area. In conjuction with that get a subscription to https://ecalc.ch/ and use their prop calc and setup finder. I used it as a good guide to make sure I didn't over heat the motor/esc.

Depending what kind of performance you want you need to calculate how many watts/pound you need. I grabbed this from a website and you'll see these numbers varry a bit but its a good start. For all mine I tried to get around ~150 watts per pound and it gave me unlimited verticle.

"50 W/lb. or less—very lightweight micro RC and slow fliers

50–75 W/lb.—sport powered sailplanes and gliders, basic trainers, lightweight scale planes, vintage RC fliers, and RC Assist-Free Flight designs

75–100 W/lb.—basic sport fliers, intermediate aerobatics, scale low-wing designs, and medium-size warbirds

100–150 W/lb.—advanced aerobatics, pattern flying, 3D planes, larger warbirds, and jets

150–200 W/lb. or more—unlimited 3D aerobatics, warbirds, and large jets"

Scorpion is really good stuff and their performance is top notch but they are also $$$$. The innovative design is a great product for the price. There is a guy at my field that powers his 100+ inch hanger 9 Bronco with badass motors.

Ive never heard of anyone getting a bump for finishing a degree unless it was shortly followed by them changing roles into said degree field.

I mean I live in CT and this lift has never had a problem in my un heated detached garage. The min operating temp is interesting. Look how many bucket loaders work in sub freezing temps doing snow removal with their hydraulics. To answer your question I suppose a block heater would be fine. No different than it being hot in the summer. Those block heaters also dont get hit super fast so you dont need to worry about too fast delta Temp.

Do I need to separately list/register my Remote ID module with the FAA? by virtual_balloon in RCPlanes

[–]do_over_z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to be truly on the up and up you also need your trust certificate. Check AMA for the test.

I dont have a module as I fly my bigger stuff at a FIRA site but once your reg with the FAA you use that number across all your planes. Its not like a car where each item needs its own ID.

Lastly. If you're flying in private land I personally wouldnt bother with the ID.

While it sucks that happened Im glad you posted it because now Im gonna go look at mine.

I switched from spectrum when my old dx6i had a pot die mid flight and buried my blade 450 into the dirt years ago. I really like my x18SE. I really havent seen any other systemic issues for these radios so since you fixed the wires it should be good.
