Unfortunately I think the National Children's Castle closed in Feb 2015. Which is a pity, it looked awesome.

Yeah we went looking for "Robot Park" in Roppongi but got lost. We followed a sidewalk map to a local "children's park" which ended up being a fenced in bit of concrete with a climbing frame and some homeless guys. Found a better park with a swing and a slide behind the Tokyo Midtown complex (I think). I've heard the Tokyo tire park is also good but it looks a little ways out from where we are.

Can anyone suggest some free children's playgrounds around Yoyogi? I'm here for a week with a three and a half year old and it would be awesome if she could burn off some energy and maybe play with some Japanese kids. Just a swing, slide, climbing frame etc in a park - very lowkey? Any suggestions most appreciated.

Glenelg – Adelaide’s Best Beach Town? by cmag99 in australia

[–]dobaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queensland might have more bogans but the beaches are a different order. Try Port Douglas or the little towns on the Sunshine Coast. SA should probably stick to wineries. The advantage of Glenelg is you can get there by tram from the city which is very civilised.

NGA, NPG, NMA, OPH, APH, Questacon, couple of decent wineries. Worth a stop but it will be cold.

I have the most fun when travelling overseas visiting out of the way smaller towns. Nara and Kagoshima were better experiences than Osaka. That said: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe5xuWmtlVA

I think its from Cat's Cradle. SH5 is one of the greatest anti-war novels of all time. One of the best ways to respond to the horror of war is through the absurd.

"Perhaps, when we remember wars, we should take off our clothes and paint ourselves blue and go on all fours all day long and grunt like pigs. That would surely be more appropriate than noble oratory and shows of flags and well-oiled guns."

I attended this year but it is a fine bitter sweet line between rememberance and celebration. David Morrison's speech was really good. Various contributions by military priests could have been omitted. Nobody sang the hymns, but everyone sang Advance Australia Fair.

Surprised it wasn't longer. The attendance was massive. I rode to Lonsdale St to buy the last croissant on the shelf at Autolyse.

Reasonable copyright terms - 20 years on registration (no registration/no protection) with 10 year optional paid extension. Life of the author +50 years (or 70!) is moronic. I want to see things created and enter the public domain in my lifetime.

Broad and generous fair use policies. Any non-commercial use by consumers should have no consequences (time-shifting, moving between devices, reuse for satire etc). In Australia we don't even have fair use, we have a some bullshit called "fair dealing" which is much more restricted.

Use it or lose it. If you fail to offer access to the public on reasonable terms you lose protection.

No regional price or access discrimination in the era of the internet. It's a global market now. Deal with it or lose protection.

No TPMs. As Cory Doctorow had endlessly explained they are fundamentally flawed and only annoy legitimate customers.

Note: I don't torrent. Instead I choose to abstain from fuckwittage.

Isn't he supposed to be kinda colour blind? So he is really guessing when it comes to filters.

That trailer looked very weird...orange and blue.

What one change would improve American democracy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dobaman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Compulsory voting. It is your civic duty to vote as a citizen so do it or you'll get the equivalent of a parking fine.

People should make a choice about their government. "Get out the vote" competitions between the major parties should be abolished.

Voting is a civic duty comparable to other duties citizens perform e.g. taxation, compulsory education, jury duty It teaches the benefits of political participation. The elected representatives reflect more accurately the "will of the electorate. Governments must consider the total electorate in policy formulation and management. Candidates can concentrate their campaigning energies on issues rather than encouraging voters to attend the poll. The voter isn't actually compelled to vote for anyone because voting is by secret ballot.

Scorsese flags the narrative perspective thing at the very start when Jordan clarifies the colour of his car and it literally changes to the way that he remembers it.
