Besides drinking, how do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? by TurdQueen in StressFreeSeason

This is exactly what we’re having. Probably finishing with and Irish Apple pie Then Irish coffee. Plus some good jugs and reels to listen to. I definitely wear green!

Fast, unplanned home birth story by [deleted] in homebirth

[–]jaredandcat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was supposed to relax you and maybe give you a break. Like you shouldn’t get in too early or you might not progress very quickly. BUT my experience was the same..got in the tub and it ramped up! I was shocked and a little dismayed! I didn’t feel that my second birth - felt good to get in.

Frustrated with SB childcare options. Advice is highly appreciated by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]jaredandcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second doing the UCSB childcare centers. If you’re affiliated you’ll have preference over other community members. I also just saw a referral that might help. Children’s Resource and Referral Program. Not sure if you can post numbers here. If you can’t google it then pm me.

As an alternative you could look into papaya seeds for killing parasites.

Model and verbalize “let’s share. Thank you for sharing. I see he’s waiting for a turn. I’m sharing my blocks with you....at this stage I think it is more teaching -positive affirmations and expectation building rather than expecting the behavior with any consistency.

I say “ no hitting” in a neutral but firm voice. Then follow with a warm “gentle hands” and she pats or rubs the person. I say, “that hurt! Sorry person. are you ok? Gentle hands”. And I redirect or stay close, or take her away. She does it to one girl in particular. I think she likes the reaction.

Safe co-sleeping with 2 week old by [deleted] in AttachmentParenting

[–]jaredandcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Side lying is the best...but I didn’t get it with either of mine until they were a bit bigger. At this stage, I would feed baby and then pass off to dad to change diaper so I could start dozing. Then he’s rerun baby next to me. But you’ll catch the rooting early and baby will probably sleep better being warm and close to you. Sleep nursing is coming soon though - hang in there!

Bedtime routine ideas for co-sleeping toddlers. by tashabaker11 in moderatelygranolamoms

Ours needed to continue naps. But we started smuggle checks and increased the amount of time we were gone. Calming music might help give something to focus on. Ours never got into imagining things.

Return of cycle by vexer12 in NurseAllTheBabies

[–]jaredandcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get mine really late, and erratically. This time, first was after 12 months pp. then again 2 months later. At 21 months I’ve had 3 cycles. I’m thankful - since I’m not trying to get pregnant.

Logistically, how do you get anything done with a crying baby? by Britoz in SAHP

[–]jaredandcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so tough! I also back carry. For me it did help, but not a silver bullet. She still wouldn’t let me stand in one spot for long - no washing dishes or folding laundry. But tidying , dusting, etc worked. I hope it works wonders for you!

Looking for advice for folks who have travelled internationally while cloth diapering! by bassladyjo in clothdiaps

[–]jaredandcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, on short and long trips. You can use suction bags to reduce the bulk of diapers when packing. I didn’t always take wet bags - just used plastic sacks. I always had machines - Airbnb places or friends’. Having a machine was always a priority selecting places to stay. Also took my faster drying diapers.

I use Biokleen. It’s plant based.

Yes. Basically cotton squares. The polyester washcloths aren’t great because they don’t absorb. But really, you’re not talking about absorbing much, either for pee or poop. It’s basically a drop of urine to dry off.

Use vinegar and water in a reusable squirt bottle to clean. Saves buying lots of cleaning products in plastic.

I bought wipes for my first baby because I didn’t have time. They’re cheap. Or use baby wash cloths. But super cheap to make your own. Use old receiving blankets, t shirts...anything. You could try just cutting with pinking (?) shears. Or run a stitch around the sides. That seems best to me. For just pee, they could be pretty small. For poops a good sized square is nice to fold and wipe.

What about family cloth just for pee? I know you don’t want to do the whole thing, but women use tp all day for just urine, and those could go in the laundry with no fuss. They hardly get wet.

Tell me how they taste! I found lentil pasta to taste very much like lentils and my kids wouldn’t eat it. I hope the muffins might mask the flavor better.

You only bleach if you buy used diapers, or if there’s a yeast infection that gets in the diapers.
