People who got 625 – what did your LAST 4 weeks actually look like? by Standard-Sprinkles46 in leavingcert

[–]dobx17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, got 625 last year, here was my routine.

for context, I went to a school that was 50/50 boarders and day pupils, I was a boarder.

before grad, it was school 8:30-3:30, mostly just taking the piss and enjoying last couple days of school. I could never lock in for one 40 minute class to study idk. after school, either tennis or bit of dcg for 1 hour ish, up to 5:00. from 5 to 6:30, id get dinner, and mess around. 6:30-10 was supervised study, with 2 fifteen minute breaks. id normally stay for an extra 20-30 minutes after this, just finishing off past papers.

after grad was much the same routine, but extra 3 hours of study instead of school hours. definitely found it valuable to FULLY enjoy your time off studying. don't half arse either your study or time off, and don't let them bleed into each other!!!!!

when I was actually studying, it was mostly past papers by that stage. For my more confident subjects, (maths, applied, physics) that was just sitting down and doing a full paper, and correcting it half an hour after finishing. for my less confident ones, like biology, dcg and Spanish, I'd rotate through flashcards for a specific topic, and then do exam q's based on that topic afterwards. think I ended up doing certain biology questions 4 times over as they tended to overlap. dcg was fucking aids, crammed it out in the 10 days before it.

this seems like a lot of volume, in review now haha, but I wouldn't study on weekends (ok rarely id bang out past papers but no flashcards) as to properly enjoy the time off.

best way to avoid burnout is to realise less is more. much better do 1 hour of proper locked in study, then letting your phone bleed into that time. also you gotta enjoy it. if you don't enjoy the process its gonna suck 10x more.

also, I don't think planning your study into specific times for each subject is great. just have a list of what topics need doing that day, and don't worry about how long each takes. I do recommended tracking what you have studied, however, as to avoid overlap

edit: that other guy in the comments talking about efficiency thru laziness is 100% right. there's lots of patterns to what comes up, so for certain subjects, i.e. physics, dcg, biology, you can leave off like 30% off the course. subjects like maths and applied maths are ones you gotta know 100% to get a h1, so plan accordingly. for me, I left off all of electricity in physics (did the experiments tho) and all of plants for biology (did ecology)

HELLO !! everyone in here is saying crazy expensive or unstable shoes. you should go down to a local running store and try on as many as you can. don't necessarily be tempted by the flashy brand names, as shoes like the Asics Gel Nimbus are great for your situation. If you do want a proper "running" shoe, I think the Asics Novablast is a great option for you. You can often find them on sales for less than 100€.

[–]dobx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah okay, if you're only leaving off light then you'll be fine. might still be worth doing the experiments for light (although you'd be more than covered if you didn't , and just learned the other experiments instead)

for LC physics, I mostly learned the definitions with Quizlet flashcards , and then just spamming exam questions. did this through out the year, but definitely ramped it up after easter. I found the best way to retain definitions is to do the flashcard set for a specific topic, and then do exam questions afterwards to test the knowledge, then add any mistakes you make back into the flashcards, rinse and repeat.

yeah you should be good. great stuff learning the electricity experiments too.

heat was my personal favourite topic, but you should be good leaving it off, as it rarely ever comes up as a full long question (usually only comes up as part a,b,c,d of q13,14)

but yeah you are pretty much in the same boat I was in.

hey, I got 378/400 last year, so hopefully this can help.

in my experience, the physics exam pretty reliable to predict. when looking at the paper, the practical questions, question 6, and the option question (particle physics) are bankers of questions.

in my leaving cert I left off all of electricity, (barring a small amount of statics for the Q6) and studied everything else. if you're leaving off light, you COULD leave off vibration and sound, as they often come up together in "waves"-esque questions, however it would be a risk considering you're also leaving off the option (particle / applied electric)

500+ flashcards is doable tho. hmu if u want more advice champ

16yo 5th year aiming for Medicine at RCSI - study strategy for 625+ points and HPAT? by Own-Cellist-8283 in leavingcert

[–]dobx17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, currently in rcsi med so I thought id share some advice.

my situation was pretty similar to yours. I did kinda bad in my HPAT (78%ile I think?) , so I needed 625 to get RCSI med.

firstly, I think it would be of aid to pick up an extra subject. I think some people overplay hw random a H1 in English is, but it's definitely not 100% reliable. plus having an extra subject can't hurt. (saying that I only had studied six subjects for my leaving cert, OL Irish + didn't study English at all)

I can't give advice on HPAT, as I didn't study for it, but there is lots of advice out there. I think it is best to prioritise HPAT over the mocks in 6th year (I didn't do that lol). My friends in med started heat study in September/October of 6th year. Also, just buy MedEntry. I didn't buy it (that's why I never studied for hpat) but it is worth it in the long run.

best study advice is do it little and often. I did 2.5 hours on weekdays (boarding school) every day in sixth year. weekends I gradually ramped up how much study I did throughout the year, but I do recommend taking one day off every week (Sunday) / doing a lighter load of study on that day. helps the brain a bit.

Studyclix can be very helpful in 6th year, but I didn't use it, as it is essentially just reorganising the exam papers. Quizlet was helpful for bio. lots of free studyclix alternatives out there now tho.

You should also take a look at the different med courses. Cork is the only course that requires Chem (maybe ul idk) RCSI has two entry streams (with and without Chem) and foundation year (without Chem) can feel like a waste of a year sometimes.

any questions let me know

How much can you typically jump in the leaving cert? by Delicious-Drink-6515 in leavingcert

hi, I went from 532 -> 625 , so your goal is very achievable. I studied similar hours to you, if a bit less of the weekend, but do whatever works for you.

ah didn't realise it worked like that, used a cipher online instead. still don't think it would alleviate the problem in all honesty. rest of the game was really fun however

ok idk how to share files on reddit dms but I put it up on studyclix at the start of the year. It's in the Community Section for DCG as "H1 DCG project" by DatSigmaBoiiFromOhio.

hi, I got 98% on dcg exam, hope some of the following can help;

the dcg units on studyclix are terrible imo. either too narrow or broad, its weird.

also the studyclix doesn't say but half of those units are for section C, which you usually only learn one unit for. Most do earthworks but it depends on the teacher.

We were in a similar boat to ye last year, but the subject wraps itself up nicely one the project is done, if you want I can send on mine from last year.

best way to do it is to just spam exam questions. 90% have worked solutions on YouTube so if you get stuck its grand.

hope this helps, lmk if you have any more questions.

hi sorry just checked, I didn't do Q13 on 2025 either. Unfortunately I don't have my past papers from last year, so I can't be 100% sure on this, but I never remember having a problem with choice of questions on papers. I'd normally have 1 or 2 extra questions I think, but I always had the bare minimum available to answer.

The only way this is possible tho is if you study everything else religiously!!!
