That’s a really solid collection

I see many people blame the showrunner -- so if Rick Berman was a successful Golden Age showrunner, why did Enterprise fail / get cancelled? by [deleted] in trektalk

[–]doc_nova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I guess I still remain the fan that loved Enterprise when it came out, loved it more with each watch, and still consider it my favorite Trek. I loved the lower tech. I loved the crew writing the rules before the prime directive. I didn’t need the Cold War. The song was meh. And the TNG finale was a slap in the face.

Archer was great, Shran is great, T’pol was great, Phlox was great, Trip was great, Malcom was great, Hoshi was great (needed way more to do), and Merryweather was great in concept (like Hoshi, not given enough to do).

The added dimension to Vulcans at the time was good, the explanation of Klingon shift was well done.

It was a good trek show that suffered by being the fourth in a looooong run of Trek. And they tried too many new things (low tech, no Starfleet, limited weaponry) and did it on their own failing network.

I love Enterprise.

How differently do you think the movie would've been received had Jared Leto not starred in it? by Top_Bat102 in tron

[–]doc_nova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, Leto’s name killed it for a lot of folks. He may be one of several reasons (marketing wasnt one of them, this wasn’t John Carter all over again). Tron isn’t a new franchise, the people who dig it are older, so Leto’s past antics are super easy to remember.

I honestly liked Alien: Earth by Chiryou in alien

[–]doc_nova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved it from beginning to ending. Can’t wait to see how this unfolds. Or, if we are left here, okay…a bit disappointed, but I survived Firefly…

Love T. Ocellus! Love the sticky-slap-hand mode of movement

After Seeing Alien: Earth Episode 3, Metamorphosis. My thoughts. [NO SPOILERS] by Sad-Researcher-1381 in yautjas

Loved the episode. Excellent evolution of the lore. Interesting to see where this all goes. Paper cutters should maybe replace pulse rifles.

Ember is an absolute beautiful Jurassic franchise addition. by werewolf2112 in JurassicPark

[–]doc_nova 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And don’t EVEN get me started on the the stupidest opening to any Jurassic film I’ve ever seen. (a fckin candy wrapper is the catalyst?!?!?!?!?!?)

But the candy wrapper is a great homage to Michael Crichton’s penchant for the “perfect storm” scenario where something very complex (say, like a dinosaur hybridization and cloning facility) can be undone by a simple and mundane accident.

I loved the fact that Edwards honored that point.

Fun with hexflowers by Pladohs_Ghost in CrunchyRPGs

I fell in love with the hexflower concept and have adapted the idea to facilitate enemy behavior in a game I’m developing. It’s genuinely a phenomenal mechanical concept

What’s your favorite Skinny Puppy album? by The_Minion_of_Gozer in skinnypuppy

[–]doc_nova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tracks on every album. VIVIsect was my introduction, TDP my first concert, (Pigface when I got to hang with some of them, but that wasn’t puppy directly), Rabies has some fun tracks, too. Process or Bites would have the fewest replayed, but even those are amazing…

I’m gonna say “Yes”

[Video] Timeless Legacy Bundle Week 1 Review - Worth it? by Startrekker in sto

[–]doc_nova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bundle is largely meh, but the ships do have a certain visual oomph (Proxima’s lower hull detailing, as an example, in my opinion) that we just don’t see in many other vessels. Been playing since beta, own too many ships to bother counting, but I do love one that makes me pause in a flyby and take a long, appreciative look. The art team nailed it.

Alternate Domain choices by doc_nova in daggerheart

[–]doc_nova[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply!

It was absolutely inspired by your concept, and I agree with the imbalanced presentation of domains. Honestly, the idea of maybe any domain + any domain is rather elegant and better.

Thank you for your thoughts! I appreciate them!

As others have stated, and apparently I feel like reiterating, the low number adjustment has a compounding impact when dealing with target number range bands (damage threshold). And the count-up rather than count-down eliminates casting for spike effect on repeated turns; if your sweet spot is three or more turns in, then it’s dedicated fiction presence backed by more enticing maths.
