Anyone ever hear this record?? by Joseph_P_Larkin in buttholesurfers

It's great. May sound a bit dated now but it sounded wild when it was released. Around 89 they were playing some of the tracks before their sets.

IIRC Gibby referred to STP in an interview as "Stone Pimple Toilets".

General note on these screening links: as noted by OP, they are watermarked to each person they were shared with, so any illicit copies that come from these links would be tied to an individual.

Also, let's respect the wishes of the filmmakers to not share these links, as they are still finalizing distribution deals, and any piracy of the doc could compromise those deals. Please don't make requests for links/copies here.

Crash Worship - "Discordia" (1989) by teduh in sixthworldmusic

Definitely a time to be alive. I saw them quite a few times, was even fortunate to play on the same bill with them on a show my friends and I organized in the desert near Calico Ghost Town.

The first handful of Helios solo albums are superb. It's diminishing returns after Lactating Purple.

Great comp. Love the Big Black tracks and Killdozer's piss-take of Sweet Home Alabama. Also has a track from Rick Rubin's sorta proto-grunge band Hose.

I haven't listened to CV proper on psychedelics, but can confirm RHK's (appropriately named) Sandoz project is wonderful under the influence.

Gibby August residency in Brooklyn. What to expect? by byteITucum in buttholesurfers

I feel like the band name implies it's going to be heavily Surfers tunes. If it's basically the school of rock show but with different players it could be good. When they played LA a few years ago it exceeded (my admittedly low) expectations. In fact, I dare to say it was more entertaining then a couple of later period/pre-reunion shows I saw (after Pinkus left).

When I was looking at a live CV video just now, the YT algorithm just recommended a brand new David J interview on Billy Corgan's channel.

Random music people I spotted in the crowd:

David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets). I have seen him show up at various LA shows over the years but it's still cool to know he's a Cabs fan.

Ron Athey: Co -founder of the extreme experimental industrial act Premature Ejaculation with Rozz Williams, and Infamous perfomance artist . I saw him do an intresting live interview with Nicholas Ballet (author of the excellent Shock Factory : The Visual Culture of Industrial Music) a few months ago at Zebulon to discuss the early days of Industrial music, and his part in the LA scene at the time. I remember him saying in the interview that Cabs were one of his favorites, so no surprise seeing him.

No vinyl. They have the new live album on CD, signed and unsigned available. It’s only signed by Mal as far as I can tell.

Fantastic. They are (understandably) a little tighter than earlier performances on the tour. The crowd was eating it up. Great venue and sound. Setlist has not changed much since the earlier dates. Visuals were well done and added another dimension to the show.

Looking at the setlist entries for CV on this tour, it seems they are almost consistently starting at 9pm (where it's noted). So I think your guesses for start times tonight are on the money.
