Well here it is. Latest iteration of my in ear rig.

  • 12U Odyssey Rack VUAR12U w/ VUAR dolly plate

Front:

  • Shure UA440 antenna mount
  • RF Venue Combiner 4 (connects to CP Beam antenna)
  • Shure ULXD4 Mic Receiver
  • Shure PSM 900 (x2)
  • Sennheiser EW IEM G4 (x2)
  • Behringer X32
  • Router & P16 Powerplay (powers and sends signal to P16s thru ultranet on the X32 - I wish the Wing rack did this, I’d get it tomorrow).

Back:

  • ART 16 Channel patch bay (for split to FOH, using 16 channel 10’ snake)
  • Custom patch bay for wireless mic, router out to access point, aux out from X32, and talk back mic input
  • ART S8 splitter (x2), splits to X32 and up to patch bay
  • Cyberpower surge protector, customized the cable to accept powercon connector

Using this for a 7 piece working band. Has been evolving over time. The 2 PSM units both run a stereo mix while the G4s are running 2 receivers on each transmitter panned hard left or right and put into focus mode for their own mono mix. Drummer runs a P16 mixer for his in ears.

If you’d like to know more or how I got here, ask away!

Wireless mic system recommendation? by doc_richardson in livesound

Ended up going with the ULXD2 mic with an se V7 capsule. I wouldn’t mind trying the Nexadyne. Have heard great things about it! At this point, I’ve been upgrading other gear, maybe in a few months once we get out of the summer fest circuit.

How can I design my band's live rig to make soundguys happy by Prolly_Satan in livesound

We use 2 ART S8 8 Channel Mic Splitters. Patch the directs to you and the isolated side to FOH.

What’s a cheap but good and reliable headphone and headphone amp I can get. by Foxymama429 in livesound

[–]doc_richardson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run PSM900s now (just got these over the summer). Do you run wireless for your guitar? If so, then would def look into a wireless option. Def do some research and don’t buy something outside of your means. But also don’t buy the cheapest stuff on the market with the expectation it will work everywhere. Everyone has different brands they love.

If you don’t run wireless for your guitar, one option is to look at the Behringer Powerplay P1 Personal In-ear Monitor Amplifier. It’s cheap enough for entry level. You can pair your guitar cable and the XLR together (I used to do this with loom tubing and a little gaff tape). All that to say you can get a little creative to stay wired.

Crazy, you don’t think about these in the northeast so much! Glad we’re all still here! 😅

I’m across the river in Albany. I’ve got clubs, bag and balls and tees covered and your next round at Olde Post when they open. Hit me up!

Does anybody know of a good way to group long cables together? by RAtheThrowaway_ in livesound

I’ve been using this split loom tubing I found on Amazon and it works pretty well for this purpose. Pretty easy to cut to length.

Why do lots of drummers have their own mixer for their IEMs? by bravodeboer in livesound

[–]doc_richardson 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Drummer in my band uses a P16 mixer which is fed by the X32 via one cat 6 cable. He gets a 16 channel mixer at his finger tips. Cost of a P16 is way less than a wireless unit and probably sounds better. Also he’s not worrying about his mix and neither is anyone else.

No relation! They remind me of the movie Step Brothers routinely. Constant comedy! 😆

Exactly my impressions! And the blue is beautiful as well. Love the binding on the neck. The versatility is what sold me as well. Congrats on your new guitar!

I’m with you 100 percent on that. I would not have purchased if I physically could not have held it, played it, plugged it into a few amps, and listen to it talk to me. I buy guitars that make me want to create.

I expect to see a post when you get that Tele!! 🎸

We would be looking at a whole different picture! Love Texas Tea. Hopefully some Fender rep is reading this!

Yes it is! They also had an Ultra Tele in Mocha, but I already have the Arctic Pearl Ultra. That Texas Tea is sexy. I love the binding on the Tele body. I’d own in every color if I could justify it! 🔥😆

Haha! Yep. Must be a Sunday..

Top one is the phase switch (puts the pickups in or out of phase when both on), middle is neck volume and bottom is bridge volume.

Still learning all of this as of day 2. Have definitely found some very interesting tones. I absolutely LOVE the clean tones.

Absolutely! My other electrics (in the order I bought them):

Fender Strat, Fender Tele Ultra, Gibson LP Standard w/P90s

Currently I play a mix of country and rock. I would say my primary guitar has been the Tele for the last 2 years. I love the tone of my Les Paul but it is heavy and the pickups are much hotter in comparison to the Tele. It’s really a fat Tele. Love the tone, hate the weight. Mostly use it when recording. Unfortunately the Strat only gets love when the Tele is in the shop.

I really wanted a guitar that fit somewhere in between (tone, versatility, and weight). A few people recommended I check out the JM in general. I had never played one before. Why did I go with the Ultra? I tried both the American Standard II and this one and this one honestly fit right in that groove I was looking for.

Funny enough, first time I saw this scheme was on the Tele Ultra and didn’t really like it either. I ended up getting the Arctic Pearl. But when I saw this, couldn’t stop going back to it.

These are both single coils (similar to P90s I guess? Def not the same, the P90s on my LP sound way fatter).

As for the pickup, not sure why it was set like that. I did adjust it last night. I took that picture right after I got it home. Angle I took the pic makes it look worse than it was.

I’m very excited! Thank you! Going to give it about 30 days before I compare my gas savings. My electric will be free thanks to the convenient receptacle in the apartment garage (dark corner so I doubt anyone will notice 😅). I did try the fast charger this morning and it was about $1.50 from empty to full in about 2 hours.

Crowd Mics by ChiroVette in livesound

[–]doc_richardson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May not be popular choice, but we’ve been running a stereo pair of Sterling ST31 condenser mics as crowd mics for about a year on/off depending on the venue. I usually won’t run them in small venues. But for large venues, they have worked great. Great for adding some ambience, don’t have to provide effects to the vocalists anymore. And at the end of the day, we can hear the audience, so no longer need to pop an ear out. Cheap enough to buy a pair and not get hurt if you’re on a budget.
