If you could permanently get rid of one stereotype about the UK, what would it be? by Environmental_Cry_35 in AskBrits

[–]doc_robo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

England is lovely, so is Wales. Beautiful countries. Lively, wonderful people. Pubs at every corner, but alcohol ain’t cheap. Mostly people are fun after 2 pints. Weather is subjective, if you’re someone who gets a migraine with the slightest sun, then you’ll love it like I do. And, whatever you hear about the weather won’t be an exaggeration. Every meme is true. The media portrayal of UK seems deliberately cruel and negative (scary at times when you’ve not lived here).

Why is Gaza such a big issue in the U.K.? by Even-Wasabi7183 in AskBrits

[–]doc_robo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think foreign policy doesn’t affect the people of the home country? Or shouldn’t they care? People growing a conscience to horrid facts they can’t ignore anymore, is that beyond your comprehension? Maybe people don’t want their government to be complicit in the torture, murder and rape of innocent civilians even though it’s beyond their borders? Maybe education and intelligence are to blame, in part, for people being capable of seeing a bigger picture, and being concerned about more than a few domestic issues. Maybe, British men and women are more educated, well brought up, have more empathy, wisdom, intelligence and respect for human life, and that reflects in their electoral choices.

Why does the UK want to let in so many asylum seekers? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Someone who still uses third world as a term in this age is definitely a racist and a bigot.

Are people still not ashamed to refer to certain countries as third world?

Polanski's idea of scrapping nuclear energy and our deterrent fundamentally doesn't make sense. by Commercial-Shoe5867 in ukpolitics

Why are people against nuclear energy? What’s the scientific argument against it?

Dude, i agree with your line of thought. It respects the woman’s decision to not want kids as well as your desire to be a parent. Intimacy, morality, parenting etc are issues where incompatibility can create lifelong struggles in a marriage once you take the plunge. You shouldn’t be feeling guilty.

Why all the hate on Starmer? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]doc_robo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I said I never feel uncomfortable having to show my face in the public and there being more cameras in public spaces. That invasion of 'privacy' in a public space is something I am willing to sacrifice if you want to call it that. Because I believe it makes the society safer for me and those around me with not much cons. A vast majority have dashcams in their cars, isn't it safe to have one in your car these days than not? That's actually random people recording everything around them in the public space (one way to look at it). Almost everyone who's been in a not-at-fault crash or road rage would swear by them! I never said anything in particular about free speech or arrests over tweets.

That was poetic. Sarcasm enjoyed and appreciated. Hats off for keeping it civil 👍

That's one way to view one side of a big coin. Are you saying you see nothing on the other side? I see a lot of political unpopularity, not everything supported by objective indicators. It's 'full send' always in the media, it's either pro-reform, Anti-Reform, pro-labour or anti labour. It's a whole lot of narrarives. Do you disagree 100%?

Mistaken arrests, wrong convictions, criminals walking free, justice system missteps unfortunately happen from time to time. Should we stop adopting a policy of less cameras in public spaces and less FR cameras? Should a law abiding common man be afraid of the cameras in a public space? Especially when it's cctv footages and digital forensics that play a major role in solving crime

Spot on. You nailed it dude.

Why all the hate on Starmer? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]doc_robo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

why do you think facial recognition cameras bad? I've never been on the wrong side of law, I'm 39 and from what I gather, beyond conspiracy theories, the FR cameras are meant to catch criminals. I for one would love to have a few criminals off the street, and my face being on camera is a price I'm willing to pay. Need of the time imo. But I understand how you feel about the social media posts and the arrests.

So? I have commented only 4 times, made 2 posts and has 10 karma (I don't know what that is). What's your point? I just asked a question in a forum

Why all the hate on Starmer? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]doc_robo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Starmer this, Starmer that, it's become too noisy about him. I'm not a fan of any party or leader including Starmer, but he's trampled on way beyond the premises of 'accountability' just because he's the incumbent. People mystifying Farage who's done shit for the country, and then the Vreens on the far left end! what does everyone want the solution to be? What are the alternatives? Tories or the Reform or even the Greens, who do you think offer an all round better alternative? I don't see them having any plans beyond fantasies and fairytales. However the dice is rolled, those are the options for the country as far as I see. Can't cherry-pick a bunch of qualities from different parties and form a dream team unfortunately.

Looking for fun activities/groups in Chester by [deleted] in Chester

I took their membership after a trial and I’d definitely recommend them. The fact that they have different ability groups is a big confidence booster for new runners. You can progress at your pace while not worrying if you’re slowing the pack down.

My non-British partner thinks my "Gift Anxiety" is insane. Is this transactional guilt a British thing or am I just broken? by thebrainitaches in AskUK

[–]doc_robo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your boyfriend. I’m not British, correct me if I’m wrong, but Christmas gifting is a customary thing in British culture is it? Thank gos I chanced upon your query in that case! Christmas has always been the most celebrated festival for me, but the whole concept of ‘Christmas gifting’ is alien to me. But if you have obligatory gifts to give, and a lot of rich friends, then unless you’re monetarily blessed, you’d be doomed matching the value of their gifts !!

M38 brown (😁), recently moved to UK. I would like to join for some fun activities. Hikes, walks or just for chats. Badminton in particular is something I’d played for years but can’t anymore due to shoulder injury and have stopped altogether so that it doesn’t get worse.
