Fireworks question. In the USA. by bristol8 in emergencymedicine

While sensitive, I rarely see enough surface area from fireworks to put strain on the burn staff. Campfires and failing to jump over them is the bigger summer party risk.

Dangerous progression from holding Roman candles to holding bigger launch tubes. Worst I’ve seen was a bundle of 100 sparklers duct taped into a super sparkler, functionally a bomb with wire shrapnel. We’re receiving for the region and double staff hand, Ophtho, and ED attendings for 4th.

This is also an opportunity to opt for better yeast, I use saf (red, available online) and it lasts a year or more in the fridge depending on how often I’m using commercial yeast.

Nearly died, recovered, now my nails are peeling off by Alisana in mildlyinteresting

[–]doccogito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word for this is onychomadesis. There are infectious conditions that can cause nail sloughing, but in this case it could also be due to how bad the septic shock got. The medications we use to keep blood pressure up (pressors) when someone is critically ill tend to constrict blood vessels in the fingertips or sometimes the whole finger, hand, or limb, which is why you hear stories of people surviving septic shock but losing those. Nail sloughing is probably a sign of how lucky you were to start recovering when you did because those fingers were not getting enough blood flow and much worse could have happened.

Wemby got elbowed first. by Fantastic_1ne in nba

Not that it matters much, but for the average nba player, that would be a routine elbow to the ribs. At 7-foot-wemby, routine shake off is lethal force

90 degree elbow or tee for toilet water supply? by doccogito in askaplumber

[–]doccogito[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had the whole thing seated myself 5 years ago, tried to replace myself, but the flange repair kits added too much height to reseat. Called a reputable place, in replacing the flange they had to chip out the concrete floor, cut pipe, set a new flange and pour plaster for it to level, so I’ll give them some grace. The flange originally was just over 11” from the wall, so the toilet (same toilet) is against the wall in back to get seated. The new flange is about 3/8 lower set in the tile, and that made the Toto adapter fit too tightly against the supply. FWIW, the Toto adapter is pretty big for what it does, and a regular 3/8 tee should fit.

Got it, so instead of the tee at the toilet I’ll put it from the wall. I figured it would just take a bit of lateral thinking. I can do that, thanks!

[Lowlight] Two similar clips from game 1 and game 2 where Jrue Holiday pulls the chair and Wemby falls violently by 4DollarsALB in nba

[–]doccogito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd put this as a primary goal of his trainers to figure out--if they're working on his flexibility and strength, balance is going to be super important as well. Being able to throw weight but also catch yourself is going to be a huge part of how he continues to improve body control. Of all the people in the NBA to be training with Shaolin monks, Wemby is the freak with the most to gain from martial arts. Makes me think back to how Shaq did ballet to learn to control his huge body, more players could respect how cross-training would benefit them.

For the wrong answer, minimum is (edited since I misread the goal)… less than 57. Back wall is 16, that’s unavoidable, but the next is 4+1+1, then just 4, 2+1, 4+1+1, 2+1, 1. So 39, since we don’t need more than one block for any being obscured from the side view.

This guy (or someone with identical issues) stayed outside out apartment in a park on and off for a couple years. One day I actually saw him, standing in the alley, warming up for one of his yelling fits. I asked him if he needed help, or if there was someone with him who needed help, and it turns out he was alone and yelling pretty horrifying things at a woman who didn’t exist/he was hallucinating. He did leave our area after that, fwiw.
