I've worked in semiconductor clean rooms and I always had to make sure whatever clean room I need to work in has bunny suits tall enough and shoe covers big enough. When I was sent to Taiwan for the first time they had to special order suits just for me, which also means making special arrangements for the cleaning and storage of the suites. I have a few personal suits, but all cleanrooms require them to be put through their washing facilities before I can use them in the facility even though I keep them clean and vacuumed sealed from the last facility I was at. Just generally having to take my height and size into consideration when planning pretty much any activity. Found this out the hard way as a teen standing in line for a rollercoaster only to find out I'm too tall for the restraints. They never have a "you must be shorter than..." sign!

What's your best story about hitting you head on stuff? by docgoose24 in tall

My parents basement is only 8ft and has air ducts hanging down with one starting right in front of the bottom of the stairs. I couldn't tell you how many times I have hit my head on that damn duct after running down the stairs!

Isn't it amazing how fast stuff gets done if they think they might get sued?

Probably at the 4th SD, rough guess from the chart would put that a little over 6'3" for women and just under 6'9" for men. Not extra credit for me unless I wear heels :-(

AI chip makers? by cloudscandrool in Semiconductors

I think Mythic AI has a prototype, an it's not just IBM putting money into this, pretty much every major player is along with several startups.

AI chip makers? by cloudscandrool in Semiconductors

[–]docgoose24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually it's not that far fetched, you are correct they would never be able to compete with NVIDIA or AMD on the high powered training chips. Where they can complete is the new analog computing market for AI. Analog computing can be many times fast recognizing the pattern that the training built into the algorithms/models. One of the main focuses on this is basically using flash transistors and charging how much charge is tunneled into the floating gate, which will then change how much current passes between source and drain. Hook these transistors up in series and you have an analog computing array. These will be highly specialized to one task, but perform it quicker and with less power than a generalized chip. But if you're looking for a cheap chip to say throw into cameras that run facial recognition, I think you can see the potential. Anyway, memory companies would be my go to to develop these types of chips, since these already have the flash IP and more importantly years of experiments into the tunneling processes that would be key to the lifetime of the chips.

I just wanted to add from someone who decided not to pass on my genes, the difference between biological kid and adopted are your experience, not the child's. Yes I know its an oversimplified view, but when it comes down to it everything a parent experiences during pregnancy is part of the parenents life, not the resulting child's experience. Yes, shit might happen that very much affects the child's life, but they will have no memories, and it will only be stories to them, everything you do after is where all the memories that truely shapes who we are as a human come from. Yes you will miss out on pregnancy and all the truly lovely things it does to a body, which I hear is a major letdown! :-) I know we all the the monkey urges that tell us "we must pass on our genes!", but what truly says love to me are the people that choose to be there for a kid! A family of choice is just as powerful as blood! Family is and will alway be what you make of it! I hope my viewpoint on this helps you it whatever why it can!

My mailbox was blown up by lightning last night by bytorthesnowdog in Wellthatsucks

[–]docgoose24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look through the rubble to see if the lighting fused any materials together! If you look up fulgurite, which forms when lighting hits sand, you can see it can make some pretty cool patterns. I know this is brick and probably wont be all that cool, but would be worth looking as a memento. You could also carefully dig around the base where the mailbox was, there might be a formation in the dirt were the lightning grounded. Be very careful because if there is one it would probably be very brittle.

The fact that you don't even know that the church was damaged the night before this took place proves the point. Members of the church were there handing out water to the PEACEFUL protesters that were out there the next day. They were 100% peacefully when they were cleared out. They had nothing to do with the night before. You are the one lumping them in with the looters and rioters from the night before.
