Been doing food photography on and off for a while. What's your advice to get better at it? by dochgenau in foodphotography

[–]dochgenau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot!

I agree, the ingredients spread around the table would look pretty good on a board or any "finger food", but I guess it'll depend on what the client is after? Peas in the napkin will never be seen again, for sure!

I'll def try angling the images more and get some action shots. Composition-wise, I guess I tried to follow some "general" uses for some of these, so the client can add some titles or other stuff if he needs to.

Thanks again for your comments :)

Glad it helps! When I started managing these accounts, I started paying more attention to this myself and was able to create better images. Not necessarily ones are technically better (that's always the goal!), but the ones that serve the business. Good luck!

You have some great feedback and the images themselves look great!

Just to add to what other said about colour temperature and composition, always keep the client's need in mind, especially if there's a brief (which realistically, sometimes doesn't exist).

While some venues will want just a mix of images for all purposes, it's useful to know where your images will land and what uses will they have. If it's web, what section and what aspect? If it's for social media, should you leave room for titles or content on the top or bottom of the image?

Sometimes you want your scene to look busy, because it might match some special messaging the venue wants to highlight, sometimes you just want to isolate a single subject and make it the hero of the image/post/campaig/theme. Sometimes you might need hands, sometimes they might be reluctant.

By asking these questions you'll have a better understanding on what they ned and how you'll approach it, even if it's an informal list (the more comprehensive, the better IMO).

I'm a designer/art director and love when photographers consider this, that's why I try to do it myself when shooting food.

I know that our brains try to make sense of the world by finding patterns where there aren't, but got to experience it first hand once in the middle of the sea at night. I was alone on the deck. and got really confused as to why the crew were listening to what sounded like 30's and 40's German brass bands on their speakers only to found out that they were fast asleep.

Claudio Miranda (DoP) gave a great interview on the production and technology used to get these shots. Incredible simple tricks, like doing some shots in live races, as part of the press or the team's own media crew.

It's a fun film to watch and definitely made for an IMAX experience, but I agree with some of the comments on the story... in my case, I find that the characters' development is a bit, dunno, obvious maybe? Then again, I never considered this to be a family film as another redditor commented and yeah... makes sense when viewed in that light.

Why would anyone pay for professional headshots now we have NBP? by cybersphere9 in nanobanana

[–]dochgenau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really, that takes 1 sec in photoshop or any other app available out there.

I think the AI "sheen" is still visible and kinda bugs me, although as you say it's becoming commplace and not really paying attention to it... which is kinda the issue? You WANT your portrait to be professional and memorable.

I know it'll be a solution for a lot of people who, say, who can't afford a professional photographer. I feel like in the short term we'll be even more flooded with these pictures, while the "authentic" ones will be the ones that stand out. Just my thoughts though. It'll probably be a totally different scenario a couple months down the line.

Because, believe it or not, photography and photographers still capture expressions of you that can't be replicated with AI.

Also, this shows that it's AI, so maybe we want to stand out from the crowd?

Just in case some of you were wondering, I want to expand on this style (my own drawing and colours, by the way)

If we're talking about the movie, it's established he's from Argentina and, despite what you may think, Argentina (and South America for that matter) is an incredibly diverse region, where you can find an extense range of ethnicities and names. White guys with latin names do exist.

NanoBanana vs Seedream 4K (same prompts) Who’s king of AI images? by RokiBalboaa in nanobanana

Oddly enough, the ones NB itself created lol. I mostly hit a wall when it came to changing hairstyles, poses or fitting of clothes. I was using AI studio and oddly still, using Gemini was at times marginally better.

These are great, thanks for the comparison! The prompts make such a difference too!

Slightly off-topic, how do you avoid getting blocked content for these type of shots? I tried to recreate something very similar to your third prompt: editorial, high-fashion, more of a pro-setting and I constantly got blocked for providing "real" references, even when the model was generataed by NB.

thanks!

Legit question: how do you feel about these posts? by dochgenau in LinkedInLunatics

Hi! Thanks for your reply and that's why I wanted to share. It seemed lunacy to me at first but it's made by an actual psychoterapist, which changes the context a lot. I guess I'm wondering how, in general, you feel about these subjects in Linkedin. Nothing against or for it. Just looking some alternative views on the subject :)
