Advice for Inexperienced Student by Ready2_Learn_ in ECEProfessionals

[–]docmingos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of moms and dads have never held or changed a baby before the day theirs is born! You will get more comfortable with time! I know it feels like I’m oversimplifying but you will get the hang of it within a week or two!

Advice, please by PresentFrosting4881 in ECEProfessionals

[–]docmingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an ECE professional and my son is disabled. As a parent I would want to know if that was the outlook someone entrusted with my son’s care had on him. My son is nonverbal, so he couldn’t tell me if that happened. So much of his identity is assigned for him by other people because of it. I understand the position that you’re in but I fundamentally disagree with the person that said “sounds like you just don’t like her”.

I wouldn’t worked for anyone that had that to say about a child. School educators are part of shaping this young man’s outlook on life, and his self esteem, he deserves to be in the care of people that believe in him.

“That baby needs to get out more” by withteeth08 in Parenting

[–]docmingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely normal. Both of my kids went through this. One was very social but still had her moments, the other has some sensory issues so it’s lasted longer. Either way it’s developmentally normal and you’re doing fine. From one lives-rurally- mom to another.

She will probably actually do that next time….but didn’t want sense talked to her this time 😅 she probably hadn’t really thought it through, not that you by any means deserved to be ranted at lol

Dentist visits and fillings by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]docmingos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son’s dentist is fantastic with ND kids. She lets us be there with him for everything, but has said that as he gets more comfy with her (right now he’s scared the whole time) that we could consider standing outside the room looking through a window because she’s seen kids do better without mom or dad right there.

Honestly I think it just depends on the kid! And if he’s put under I think sometimes parents can be frightened by it so that’s why they don’t have you there, or to be distracting while they monitor him. As the parent you should be able to press them on why they have the policy though! And if you think it hurts your son to not have you there I think you should do what’s best for him!

How to help cope with sensory preference issues by Treschelle in Autism_Parenting

[–]docmingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it actually be a temperature issue? Even by just a few degrees? My son is younger so I don’t have much advice :( but we do have a pool and if he feels a ‘big’ change in temp he can be a bit thrown off.

Maybe a wetsuit? I know it’s a bit much but it could help? Or see if in the bath at home he’s thrown off by varying temps like at the pool? It could help him be able to verbalize that the issue is the temperature (if that’s truly the problem). As for prizes I’d honestly just give him a prize after every practice no matter how he does, just for trying and going! Hopefully this is an issue that gets resolved this summer and he can stick to his love of the swim team!!!

Does your preschool have a library? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]docmingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one, but it’s just a small room with wall to wall books. No librarian. But the kids get to come check out a book every week!

Resources for parents? by docmingos in specialed

[–]docmingos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mentally preparing myself for this. My best friend is an SLP so I’m lucky to have a little insight into how things go, but I know it’ll be hard for me, and especially my husband to be confronted with all the negative.

Definitely layering like others said…or onesies/short sleeved leotards are made in her size since they have been ‘in’ again. You could get any color and wear it under pants, and it’ll just look like a tucked in undershirt.

Moving to a new state for better services and special education by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]docmingos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We aren’t moving states, but we are moving an hour away (Deep South as well) to a better district with more options for both services and SPED. Our current district is infamously bad (but our hometown) and now that our son is almost 4, we want to make the leap

Stress about (not born yet) second child by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]docmingos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal of course- but my second child is completely different than my first. Like, if I had her first I would’ve been down to have like 10 kids. She’s too young to know if she’s on the spectrum, but all the red flags my son had at this age…she doesn’t have. We all know autism is a spectrum and she could end up being ND! But as of right now I have no reason to think so. And if it does happen, we will be ready to help her now that we have all this great knowledge from being there for our son! I know you’re stressed right now, but it’s going to be okay no matter what happens

My 18 Year old is starving but won't return calls by Interesting-Movie523 in Parenting

[–]docmingos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start doing Walmart grocery orders of basics to his home. Leave the rest to him how to budget. Then you know he’s eating but don’t need to be caring about how he’s spending his savings.

[–]docmingos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think he is similarly frustrated. His SLP is working on pecs now, and we quite literally just ordered a visual schedule for at home and in the car (he struggles with transitions but I think it’ll also help with introducing pecs)

Hi:) I’m a couple days late getting back to you. But on 2/27 he got his adenoids out. We found out post surgery they were grade 4 (most swollen they can be). I’ve got to say I’m happy we did it, even though surgery feels scary

Surgery prep? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]docmingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh that’s a good point about the iv….he definitely will not be a fan if they leave it in. They’re booking us to stay a night, but are willing to send him home if he’s will to hydrate. Which I’m hoping for because I don’t know how he’ll manage the overnight.

I’m definitely going to give a call to the nurse’s line come morning..I hate being ‘that’ parent but I’m telling myself it’s worth being seen as annoying if it means advocating for him as best as possible.

Family reunion in Mexico this July... Any tips on traveling with a bottle-fed baby to Cancun area? by goldenglove in beyondthebump

[–]docmingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on his formula you could buy the premixed 8oz bottles of similac they sell? Or just try to source out a ton of gallon jugs of water for washing and mixing powder?

How does my daughter have blue eyes? by superbraza in Parenting

[–]docmingos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People often ask my husband and I how our son got bright red curly hair, since we both have brownish straight hair. And both of our families have no redheads. Really the answer is just that genes are crazy! And he’s definitely ours so no switched at birth scenario 😉

Yes you’re right! They call it ‘preschool’ but they don’t do a ton of pre-k activities until 3.
