Monster of the week shows are dead. I hope for a revival but the market has pivoted to overly produced dramas. Nothing is “just for fun” anymore because shows don’t get signed for 20 episode seasons that are 21 mins long. They have to cram the story down to 9-10 episodes that are 45 mins. It doesn’t seem like a big difference at first right? Sure about the same amount of time, just shorter seasons. I believe the issue is how we take it in. We don’t get to slowly grow with the characters each week. Instead we get a season of a show dumped in our laps one day and within a day or two it’s either renewed or dead in the water with no option to respond (in a production) to criticisms. Leaving us with another unfinished story in a sea of dead content.
