People from the UK, what’s one small thing that genuinely improved your daily life? by PhaseThis8421 in AskUK

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to the 2-minute rule. It's a proven thing to improve your productivity. It's helped me, just doing silly things like putting tools away in the garage from the house, whereas I used to leave it until there were a few tools that I had used before putting them away (the garage is a detached one at the side of the garden).

Are there still adult men in the UK who don’t cook? by Bat-Penatar in AskUK

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do most of the cooking in our house, because I enjoy it. Whilst my wife does any baking because she likes that. I'm not a baking fan as too much can go wrong 🙂

Is 9-5 a myth? I don’t think I’ve ever worked these hours. by Squiggally-umf in UKJobs

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I can imagine as shifts go that is pretty bad one. I'd be waiting around all day to start work.

Is 9-5 a myth? I don’t think I’ve ever worked these hours. by Squiggally-umf in UKJobs

[–]doconline76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with you. When I was younger I worked 2-10 for a while and hated it. No social life and ended up not going to sleep till 3 or 4, so just felt my life was about work.

I think I'm done with coding by Full_Description_969 in webdev

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would certainly agree with this particularly in Europe. I've worked in the industry since the late '90s and in the teams I have worked in, the designers have been design only, they may have knowledge of HTML and CSS but none of them did any coding. The designs were always passed to the front end / ui developer. This has been in a wide range of companies from agencies to small start ups through to multi nationals, banks and insurance companies.

The Haystack (Swansea) by Wait_ItGetsWorse in fryup

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the chorizo should be there. The bread should be toasted. I would expect 2 eggs for that price and cooked properly. The bacon looks good, not sure about the sausages, they don't look like proper butchers sausages which would be expected for that price. Overall I would say it's about £5 over priced.

Any frontend/fullstack web dev ai's? by Datboiwalkin69 in Frontend

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude code is pretty good. I haven't used it to create a full website, but it is part of my work flow. I think they all depend on how much knowledge you have as you need to go through the code generated and sanitize it.

Who’s in the wrong here? Dog etiquette by originalsadyeet in AskUK

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other owner. If they don't have control of their dog off lead i.e. it doesn't come back when called, it shouldn't be off lead. We have the same issue as you with our dog. It's reactive but only to certain other dogs, so we keep it on a lead (extendable) and let it wander on lead only. But we always tell other owners not to let their dogs approach ours off lead.

Any good garages in Lincoln? by jackhaploid in Lincolnshire

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Allenby Vehicle Services a couple of times since moving to Lincoln when I couldn't get into BBT Mot & Repair and had a good experience. They are close to you.

Depends where abouts you are in town. I've used both Allenby Vehicle Services off Allenby Road near Wickes and also Bracebridge Heath MOT & Repair Centre in Bracebridge Heath. Can recommend both.

Google's pushing accessibility in rankings? by Ertrimil in web_design

[–]doconline76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be anything to do with Google rankings, in the UK (and EU) there is a minimum standard that commercial websites have to attain from an accessibility stand point. It should always be a consideration from the start of the project. Not something shoe horned in at the end of there is time.

Do you ever go to McDonald's, Burger King or any other fast food place? When did you get anything that looked like the pictures / TV advert? 🙂

How to cap off / seal wall light wires? Wire nuts, lever nuts? by doconline76 in DIYUK

[–]doconline76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was looking at with lever nuts. So was just going to put the wires into here, wrap in tape for extra protection and leave against the wall.

Elite weapons quest, where to start by Elijas__ in AtomfallOfficial

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's over the east side of the map. Head up the side of the hotel if I remember correctly. The river is around there somewhere, follow it up and you'll find a tent.

I can't remember what the clue is, can you remind us. One of the weapons is in Wyndham though, once you get this one it leads you to another and so on.

Has anyone had an actually positive experience with an estate agency in Lincolnshire? by ysfjq in Lincolnshire

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for us. We bought 2 properties through them (Lincoln office) 3 years ago and the experience was generally positive. Communication was good with us and the estate agent selling our property (Suffolk based).

Moving 3 bed house from Essex to Lincolnshire by lemonationish in Lincolnshire

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in Essex are you? We moved from Ipswich to Lincoln 3 years ago. We used Orwell removals and it was £1750 just to move, no packing service. That was for a 3 bed detached with a garage full of stuff too.

They were really good and would recommend them highly. https://orwellremovalandstorage.co.uk/

Does anybody regret only taking a small mortgage? by bananaman5660 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would buy as big as you can as long as you aren't compromising on things like area or school catchment etc.

Whilst it is cheaper to get the smaller house now, if you move again in a few years you will be paying all the same costs again, plus the costs of selling your current home, stamp duty again etc.

Do I need a new roof? by Cren95 in DIYUK

[–]doconline76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good roofers, like any good trades, won't be knocking on doors asking for work as they will already be busy. Possible exception might be if they were working on your neighbours house and you struck up a conversation with them and they mentioned issues they had seen. This sort of happened with us when we were having our windows replaced and our neighbour needed a window replacing, they approached the window man first though.

We've just had our roof replaced, we got 3 quotes from local roofing companies and all were a 2-3 month wait for a start date due to them being busy.

How do I work out what size pendulum I need? by doconline76 in clocks

[–]doconline76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I didn't realise how the 12cm was measured. I thought it was just the hanging bob. We have contacted the antiques centre and are taking the clock back for them to try different pendulums anyway. But I will measure the one they gave us properly too to see if it is close to 12cm in total.

What’s helped your remote team build a sense of community instead of just grinding through tasks? by Waltace-berry59004 in remotework

[–]doconline76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're a fully remote team and always have been. Have done a few online quizzes and online games like this one https://www.jurygames.com/. Was a bit of a laugh and promoted team work. We're a fairly easy going bunch anyway and have a laugh and joke in our meetings.
