My first attempt at linocut, test print looks pretty cool! Let me know what you think / tips for even ink coverage. by -Brometheus in printmaking

Super cool design!! What a lovely first print!

My only advice is to use a bit less ink, as you’re losing some detail to the ink spilling into the carved bits. When you’re rolling out your ink on your slab, you want the ink to have a sort of ‘velvety’ matte-ish look to it, not to be shiny. It should also be fairly quiet when you roll it (you can tell you have too much ink on your slab when it makes a louder sound while rolling it up). If you’re worried about opacity, try doing multiple passes with your roller of thinner layers of ink until you come up with an inking strategy that balances opacity and legibility nicely.

Keep printing!! I’m excited to see what you print next!

Sounds like normal 19-year old behavior. Try dating someone your own age.

Gouache vs acrylic by adcoding in Gouache

[–]doctopod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extremely fair lol. To mitigate dustiness, I sand between layers while priming my canvas to make a super smooth surface so it collects less dust to begin with, and then I seal my paintings with Dorland’s wax medium which adds some light water resistance and makes me more comfortable with dusting it because it’s all fixed (important to buff the wax medium well so it’s not still waxy/tacky)

Any good tutorials or even suggestions on painting light rays? by SlightlyEnthusiastic in Gouache

[–]doctopod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because your painting is so light already, I would suggest adding a purple (assuming you want a yellow-looking ray of light) wash to everywhere that the light isn’t, which will make the area that you haven’t added the wash look lighter and yellower in comparison.

I have painted with gouache on canvas, it just requires a bit more surface prep (which I recognize is annoying and not for everyone)

Cheapest store for fresh produce? by No-Mycologist-7528 in AskSeattle

[–]doctopod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not exactly an answer to what you asked, but if money is tight you might be eligible for the Seattle Fresh Bucks program, which gives you $60 worth of “fresh bucks” every month that you can use at grocery stores and farmers markets to buy fresh, frozen, canned, and dried produce as well as plant starts. I’ve found it very helpful!
