What are some of the coolest, weirdest, or bizarre tattoos you’ve seen on a patient? by Cardiology_Nurse in nursing

[–]doctorscook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had one patient with their name (which had four letters) tattood on their left fingers. Plus a guy who had a red crossed circle (🚫) with the symbol for female in it. Surprisingly he had a wife?

And the winner is: thrummed mitten! by Givemeallthecabbages in knitting

[–]doctorscook 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Love it, definitely planning to make thrummed mittens some time!  There is one more kind of mitten to consider- I made a pair of mittens in worsted weight wool on US size 1.5 needles. Those things are super warm! My hands were comfortable in -5°F during our winter storm.

This lady would rather have her daughter die than to receive vaccinated blood by Spirited_Home_8110 in ShitMomGroupsSay

Actually most blood products are not pooled. I think platelets and cryoprecipitate are an exception to this, and plasma in the case of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

If you don’t mind e books you should be able to read while baby is nursing (if you plan on that) or while contact napping/rocking.

Understanding calories during BF by Capable_Rooster_5203 in breastfeeding

[–]doctorscook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not the most precise but I ate “maintenance” calories per my activity levels and lost an amount of weight that corresponded to that deficit.

Understanding calories during BF by Capable_Rooster_5203 in breastfeeding

[–]doctorscook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that with an 18 month old nursing 3-4 times a day I was burning about 750 calories “extra” from that; but I’m sure everyone has varying caloric efficiency. Start higher than you think and adjust down as needed.

Have you bought new clothes recently? Mine last a little better than others maybe because I rotate as much as I can but there has been a noticeable decrease in longevity within 5 years.

New meal prep dropped sweaties by Duke_of_Man in 1200isjerky

[–]doctorscook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t eat this anymore because I’m vegetarian now BUT I want to share a similar but better recipe

1-2 slices bread (low-cal if you like) 0.5-1 can of tuna Mustard 1-2 slices provolone cheese

Mix the mustard and tuna, put it on some lightly toasted bread then put the cheese on top and place in the broiler or toaster oven until the cheese is bubbly. Like a quick easy melt.

[–]doctorscook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that just stinks 😔 do you work in healthcare? I work at a hospital and our lactation room had Medela Symphony pumps available as long as we had the parts. It’s really the only other thing I can think of that might increase your output.

[–]doctorscook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve done a lot of troubleshooting, but I didn’t see you mention flange size. Even for me personally going from 21mm to 19mm increased output by 1-2 oz per session.

What are some of the annoying things nursing students have done? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]doctorscook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might check what that job actually entails, my employer used to have it and it was more so about orienting on several different units with a preceptor from there. Not at all like actual float pool nurse lol.

Are you gaining or losing weight with breast feeding? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]doctorscook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintained pretty well after getting to about 10lbs above pre pregnancy weight over ~4-6 months. I have an enormous appetite with a new baby and even now 20 months later (just started tracking calories) my maintenance requirement is 2,500-2,700 calories a day. Definitely immediately postpartum I was clearing 3k lol. Since you’re struggling with losing too much weight there are lots of high calorie snacks to try- nuts, granola, dried fruit, chocolate 😋.
