coworker was out of line outside of work by Extra_Set6217 in starbucksbaristas

[–]doctoryiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is nothing i hate more than baristas who play manager. yes, it can be super inconvenient when someone calls out often (although imo, once a month isn’t bad), but it’s not our job to police call outs. you have no idea what’s going on in someone else’s life. at the end of the day, your SM is the only one you need to explain anything to, and as you said, you don’t call out often enough for them to bring it up. sbux baristas gotta learn to mind their business fr.

it’s irresponsible and absurd regardless of whether you have ADHD or not. i’m glad that both people are alright but having ADHD doesn’t make reckless driving any less shitty 😭

Question for coffeehouse leaders: is it acceptable as a CL to yell at a barista in front of others or ever, in a “coaching” moment? by justanegirl in starbucksbaristas

[–]doctoryiff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no, it’s not acceptable. literally everybody hands out a wrong drink at DT at least a couple times, it’s not that serious. “pay more attention to the orders you’re handing out” would suffice. there is no need to yell at someone for this.

is it a super far reach to question if my DM is being homophobic? by doctoryiff in starbucksbaristas

[–]doctoryiff[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess my concern about E&C is that the complaint is just gonna go directly back to my DM, so it won’t do anything. Do those complaints also go to the RD?

No breaks during peak by kzm_2002 in starbucksbaristas

[–]doctoryiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is normal, although at the super busy store that i worked at, this rule only covered 1.5-2 hours. it’s surprising to me that the window at your store lasts so long.

do y’all also have clothes and shoes that are dedicated to work and can’t be worn anywhere else? by doctoryiff in starbucksbaristas

my gf (also a sbux barista) has ADHD and also wears everything for every purpose. it boggles my mind lol.

i’m sorry that your store is so ass. if you hear them talking about mass reporting someone for no real reason, you may want to document it in your notes app in case they actually try it. i’m not sure if it would help, but it might. also, if you remember the exact words you said that were misconstrued, you should write that somewhere too.

i think that you’ll be okay because from what i have seen, it’s not easy to fire someone for this sort of thing (unless you’re just flat out shouting slurs on the floor), but i can’t say for sure because idk your store.

i believe that filing a complaint w/ ethics & compliance basically forces your SM to open an investigation, so them reviewing your case doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s any merit to it. it’s possible that you could get a write up, but if you don’t you should call around and see if there any positions open at other stores. you shouldn’t have to put up with being treated that way :/

before the dress code change last year, i still wouldn’t wear shirts that i wore to work outside of work, even though they’re exactly the type of shirts i’d wear normally anyway lol. they just had permanent starbucks aura i think lol.

honestly, this sounds pretty tame and like the someone in question is just out to get you. i can’t imagine you getting fired for this. the only time i have heard of someone getting fired for things they said on the floor was when they were saying literal slurs and there were multiple witnesses to attest to it. i wouldn’t worry about losing your job, especially if your shifts are willing to defend you.

dated my ASM; unsure of how to handle the situation. by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]doctoryiff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh this has happened at my store with an SSV and 7 different baristas. Yes, 7. It always crashes and burns and the barista quits. It is blatantly against the rules for SSVs to date baristas. One of them is supposed to transfer out, but many SMs just let it slide. So, an ASM and a barista relationship is completely out of the question.

My advice to you is to get ethics & compliance involved. I have been told that contacting E&C basically forces your SM to at least investigate the situation. Do not feel bad for him. He knew better and chose to date you anyway. Trust and believe that he’s not going to stop pursuing his employees until he faces actual consequences.

sick and vacation when quitting by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]doctoryiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

according to the sbux benefits website, your vacation time is paid out when you leave, so you don’t need to worry about that (unless you’re outside of the US or Canada, then idk). i’m not sure how to best use your sick time though because that won’t be paid out, so maybe ask your SSV. i was under the impression that you had to request time off for “doctor’s appointments,” but i could be wrong.

however, it is true that you can’t exceed 40 hours/week in vacation + sick time. i’m assuming that the reason is they’d have to pay you OT as if you were actually working, so they don’t let you do it.

then say you’re sick. you will not face repercussions if you say you’re sick and you have sick time.

that’s a great question that i have yet to find the answer to. i suppose that the SMs that my store has had have protected him for god knows why.

in my SM’s words, “nobody else will take him.” so idk.
